Not only is it one of the greatest memes of all time, but now the famous “Steamed Hams” scene from The Simpsons has become a video game. Steamed Hams: The Graphic Adventure is an unofficial fan game created by NeoDement that manages to truly make a player feel as if they're part of the show.

Steamed Hams, as it's known, is a scene from Season 7, Episode 21 of The Simpsons, known as ‘22 Short Films About Springfield’. The scene features Principal Skinner inviting Superintendent Chalmers over for a dinner of baked clams before things go disastrously. Skinner is trying hard to impress his boss but keeps messing up, burning the meal and then telling increasingly ridiculous lies to get away with it. Fortunately, Chalmers is fairly gullible and believes Skinner when he says that the replacement Krusty Burgers he ran out the window to purchase were called ‘steamed hams’. It's absurd and rife for memes, and this is why it works so well as a game - even if the creators of The Simpsons seem confused about the scene's enduring popularity.

Steamed Hams: The Graphic Adventure was built with Adventure Game Studio and plays like classic point and click adventure games such as Monkey Island. The dialogue is lifted from the show and the sprites from the game were taken from the classic arcade game, which only helps the authenticity. Players should not expect a challenging game, as it's limited mostly to things that happen in the episode, and is thus more of an interactive experience. The game is playable online right in a browser or as a download over at Game Jolt.

Adventure Game Studio is an engine that's used to produce plenty of legitimately great games, including many from point and click publisher Wadjet Eyes, who is behind titles like Technobabylon. It’s free to use and a perfect tool for game developers to test out fun concepts such as this, as well as anyone who wants to make sure that point and click games don't ever die out.

The Simpsons has been around since 1989, and video game adaptations of it have been around for almost as long, with the first The Simpsons arcade game hitting in 1991. While many have been of dubious quality (especially during the NES days in the middle of the Bart craze), games such as The Simpsons: Hit and Run have been beloved by fans of the show. From the excitement shown just for Steamed Hams: The Graphic Adventure, people clearly can't wait for the next official adaptation.
