Players of The Planet Crafter who look through all the items in the Blueprints screen will find something called the "fusion energy cell" sitting right at the end. As of the Lore and Automation update, players can get the crafting blueprint for pulsar quartz at 175 GTi, but the fusion energy cell needs over double that, 360 GTi, to unlock.

Unfortunately, players who get to this point may be disappointed by what they find. Not only does the fusion energy cell use valuable pulsar quartz to craft, it also doesn't have a use in any craftable machine or building. So where do players of The Planet Crafter find a use for this item?

The Big Hill Wreck

Planet Crafter Hill Reactor

The answer to this question lies in the depths of two of the wrecks on the game map. These ruins both contain fusion reactors, and by placing fusion energy cells inside these wrecks will partially power up and open up doors to new areas that players can explore.

The first wreck is the large cargo ship, Cirella-IV, on the hill that faces the standard landing site. Players can reach the reactor by going straight in, turning left by the round door, and then continuing straight through every intersection. The reactor is just to the right of an information screen that describes the ship's emergency landing.

Powering this reactor up will turn on red emergency lights, and it will open two doors. The first is a round door on the left as the player leaves the reactor room, and the second is another round door in what's now a four-way intersection.

The Gate Wreck

Planet Crafter Gate Reactor

The second wreck with a fusion-cell reactor is the warp gate ruin in the northeast corner of the map. Players can hardly miss the massive gate arch sticking out of the sand, but the ruin itself is a bit harder to spot and sits under the northern side of the gate. Players should also note that this ruin will be flooded by the time the fusion energy cell unlocks.

To find this reactor, players should move downhill as much as possible until they find a room with a message screen. The reactor is to the left of the screen and on the back wall. Once it's powered, this ruin will also light up and a circular door will open. This door is to the right as players leave the reactor room, and it's only half-submerged in water.

By opening these doors, players get access to several blue crates. The contents are random, just like every other crate in the game, but depending on how thorough players were in earlier terraformation stages these may be the last blue crates on the map. Since the contents of blue crates are random based on the current terraformation stage, this means the items inside are sure to be helpful (even if they might not be worth the effort).

The Planet Crafter is available now in early access on PC.
