When The Outer Worlds came out it was just what Fallout fans needed, with a little more traditional sci-fi added. The Obsidian RPG released to positive reviews, being described as similar to Fallout while staying distinct through its setting and sillier tone. The Outer Worlds was released only for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but players will be able to explore Halcyon on Switch when it launches on June 5.

In January the release date for the Switch version of The Outer Worlds was announced, being set for March 6. However, this release date was delayed indefinitely due to concerns over coronavirus. The developer working on the Switch port, Virtuous, needed to close its offices due to the pandemic—as a result, production of The Outer Worlds' port was stalled.

The Switch has been a great console for many RPGs, especially longer and more time-consuming ones such as Skyrim and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Similarly, the Switch might be The Outer Worlds' perfect fit, particularly because of its portability and flexibility. Many have held out on buying The Outer Worlds in favor of waiting for the Switch release, so its new release date is good news for such players.

A Switch release isn't all that the future has in store for The Outer Worlds, though. Along with the Switch port, Obsidian has confirmed that Outer Worlds DLC will be released some time in 2020—beyond that, the future of The Outer Worlds remains unknown. However, with The Outer Worlds being such a promising franchise, players can be confident that they will see more from the series

The Outer Worlds is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will release for the Switch on June 5 2020.
