Seth MacFarlane's The Orville is one of the best comedy series of recent years thanks to the creator's unique use of old sci-fi tropes, stunning visuals, rhapsodic music, complex characters, and exciting storylines that make the show stand out. The Orville also has a great variety of aliens who boost not only its visuals but its well-written high-concept stories too. This episodic series is also one of the most scientifically accurate sci-fi TV shows ever created, thanks to the science consultants who assist the creators.

The show's tone shifted a lot since season one, most noticeable in how the creators handle comedy. The funny punchlines and scenes have been toned down, giving more space to deeper stories, more character development, as well as darker themes that often tackle recent social issues. However, that doesn't mean that The Orville: New Horizons is without humor since its relatable and lovable characters still give its fans plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

8 Krill

Teleya a Krill alien in The Orville

The Krills are one of the main antagonist alien races in The Orville. What makes the Krill such a dangerous enemy is not necessarily their strength but that they're religious extremists who are filled with violent hatred and are working on eradicating all non-Krill races from the Universe. Most of the Krills are characters who have no clue they're evil, and those are always the scariest and most dangerous types.

However, viewers already met a few Krill who think differently. In some ways, even Teleya showed some progression and often seemed conflicted because of her decisions even after she became the new leader of her planet. Fans still don't know a whole lot about the Krill race or know any member of their species intimately. Hopefully, this will change in future episodes.

7 Kaylon

Isaac a Kaylon in The Orville

The Kaylons are the most dangerous adversaries in the series so far. There are hundreds of movies about A.I. taking over since it's one of the most popular sci-fi tropes fans can't get enough of. Isaac's storyline and character development introduced the series' biggest twist yet with craft.

The Kaylons are artificial lifeforms who want to eradicate all biological life forms because they regard them as lesser species. Without a doubt, the Kaylons are one of the most fascinating alien races in the series so far. While viewers could already learn a lot about how a Kaylon's mind operates through Isaac's character development, fans are eager to learn even more about them.

6 Benzian

Benzian in The Orville

Benzians are the coolest-looking CGI alien species in the Orville universe. This technologically advanced race only appeared in one episode in the first season of the series so far. The Orville crew had to evade the Benzians' attack after they were taken five centuries into the future by a hired smuggler named Pria.

Benzians appear to be an untrustworthy but highly intelligent species with advanced technology and sea creature-like tentacles. It would be interesting to see their first encounter with the Union in their current timeline.

5 Calivon

Three Calivons in The Orville

While Calivons certainly aren't the most conscientious aliens in the show, their world does seem compelling. Thanks to their round head and red skin tone, they're also memorable despite their one-episode appearance. Calivons are intelligent and technologically advanced species who look at less intelligent species as inferior and even built a Zoo where they're holding and displaying other captured alien races.

While the Calivon Zoo is a horrific idea come to life, the episode gave fans a few quick introductions to new alien races, including Ock'or, Lurenek, and a Baral kid who was freed with Kelly and Ed.

4 Katrudian

Groogen a Katrudian alien, Kelly, and Talla in The Orville

Bruce Willis' hilarious surprise cameo gave The Orville fans one of the chillest, coolest, and most unique alien races so far. Katrudians seem like one of the most social, peaceful, and fun-loving alien races in the series who can easily build friendships with other species.

Katrudians look like giant flowers with eyes and mouths and are growing from plant pots similar to most earth flowers. Unfortunately, Groogen is another character who only appeared once in the series, but it would be fun to meet other members of his species and especially thrilling to take a visit to their home planet.

3 Mutiphasic Planet humanoid

Dinal alien in The Orville

Thanks to one of the newest episodes of The Orville, the most advanced alien race was re-introduced in the series, the Multiphasic Planet humanoids. The Orville is not a sci-fi set in utopias, but it's one where most of the alien races are working towards this goal, and the MP humanoids might be able to help with that.

While Dinal and her race aren't omnipotent, they're by far the most technologically advanced alien race and also the first ones in the series who are immortals. Her newest adventure with the Orville crew was one of the most thrilling, trippy, and thought-provoking stories yet.

2 Gelatin

Yaphit a gelatin alien in The Orville

The Gelatin Yaphit is responsible for some of the most hilarious moments in the series. Yaphit was voiced by late comedic genius Norm Macdonald who made this goofy bright-green blob unforgettable. Gelatins appear to be a highly sociable and intelligent alien race who also bravely step up when it comes to battles.

Yaphit, just like other Gelatins, can shape his body into any physical form he chooses, which came in handy many times in the series. One of the most memorable Yaphit scenes is his private moment with Claire. Their unexpected sexual encounter turned them into one of the most iconic tv couples ever.

1 Moklan

Bortus a Moklan in The Orville

The single-gender Moklans are one of the most brute and interesting alien races in The Orville. Theirs is also one of the coolest-looking alien costumes in the series that's not CGI. Fans got to know the Moklan society and many of its customs considerably well through the series' fan-favorite Moklan, Bortus. Theirs is a proud alien race with great physical strength who have a hard time acclimating to the Planetary Union and can't accept many of its most basic humanitarian laws.

Bortus struggles a lot during the seasons since the Moklan way of thinking is often very different from his crewmates, and he often finds himself between clashing ideals. Bortus' stories are also the ones that resonate with most fans since these are reflections of the current social distresses all viewers face in real-life, one way or another.
