  • Concerns among fans about The Marvels requiring prior knowledge from Disney Plus shows may deter newcomers and casual viewers.
  • Mary Livanos, executive producer of The Marvels, reassures that the film will satisfy long-time fans while also being accessible for those new to the characters.
  • The film's ability to stand alone and not necessitate watching other projects may bring back interest from fans who feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of MCU releases.

The Marvels is the latest superhero film from Marvel Studios. However, many fans worry that the film may not be friendly to newcomers or more casual Marvel viewers.

Fans believe The Marvels requires fans to do too much homework on Disney Plus to understand the film. Two out of the three primary characters in the Captain Marvel sequel were introduced in separate shows only available on Disney Plus. With Nick Fury appearing in the film, fans may need to have watched Secret Invasion to understand some plot elements. Having to watch 3 shows and about 17 hours of content to watch one movie from a franchise whose quality in content has been diminishing over the years is a lot to ask of fans.

The Marvels Director Nia DaCosta Refutes Report On Behind-The-Scenes Drama

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta defended herself against reports claiming she left the Captain Marvel sequel during post-production.

Mary Livanos, the executive producer of The Marvels, explained in an interview with Collider that the film will be satisfying for long-time fans. However, it will still be welcoming to fans who are new to the characters. Fans who have watched these characters and followed the shows and movies will see several things pay off in this film. Hopefully, this will help the film's The Marvels' box office as its projections continue to drop. Livanos told Collider:

"I think what's great about this movie is if you are a huge fan of the comics, if you're a huge fan of the MCU, if you've seen the incredible Ms. Marvel show, if you've seen WandaVision, if you saw the first Captain Marvel movie, there is so much to follow, so many threads to pick up with this film that really pays off."

Despite the film being connected to all these different Marvel Studios projects, Livanos assures that The Marvels will still be enjoyable to fans new to the characters. “But at the end of the day, if you're less familiar with the storytelling thus far, this is about three people really meeting for the first time and coming together,” Livanos said, “Just like any movie, you meet new characters and get to know them and get caught up to speed, and this movie does it with extreme dynamism, so I'm excited for people to enjoy it whether they're huge fans or new fans."

This should give some hope to fans who want to watch the movie without needing to watch any of the other MCU projects. This is also good news for X-Men fans who may want to watch the movie because of that X-Men tease in The Marvels' final trailer without seeing the previous projects.

The MCU rose to greatness because of how all the films connected and set up the next project, but now it seems like they've been producing too many projects, and fans are losing interest. However, that could turn around if fans see that The Marvels can be enjoyed without watching the other projects.

The Marvels will be released in theaters on November 10, 2023.
