The Marvels star Brie Larson dispelled previous rumors that she had become disillusioned with her MCU character. Following fan backlash in response to her performance in Captain Marvel as the titular character, it was rumored that Larson wished to move on from the MCU. However, a recent interview seems to suggest the opposite.

In the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, author Joanna Robinson wrote that Larson wanted to quit her role as Captain Marvel. The actor had grown weary of her MCU job, likely due to the negative attention Larson received from online trolls and haters of recent MCU movies. Following the disappointment that Captain Marvel 2 had at the box office this month, speculation grew that Larson was ready to hang up her Captain Marvel outfit.

However, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Larson offered an optimistic perspective on her MCU character. The actor explained that there is still much more to be told regarding Captain Marvel's story and that the superhero is only beginning to grow. Larson further explained that she loves the character and relates to her in more ways than one. "I think there is still so much inside of Carol. I feel like getting to be on this team just cracked her open in a way that she hadn't been, and I really loved that for her ... So I think that there is just so much more to go," Larson said. "She is just a great character to continue to grow with. It's like, as I am growing she is growing." She even revealed that plans involving Captain Marvel's return are in the works, but couldn't provide any details.

I don't want Marvel to come for me, but there is something. There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to, so.

These plans involving Larson's Captain Marvel might revolve around potential appearances in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The Kang Dynasty has experienced some production shakeups recently, so Captain Marvel may be involved in Marvel Studios' newest plans surrounding the movie. The studio probably isn't in a rush to make a third movie with Captain Marvel at the helm following Captain Marvel's controversial fan reception and The Marvels' flop at the box office.

Jonathan Majors' legal disaster might result in him being expunged from the MCU, leaving a massive hole in the plot for Marvel Studios' phase six of movies. It's still unclear if the studio plans to recast the character or do away with Kang completely. With Larson fully on board to continue her journey as Captain Marvel, her character could play a pivotal role in filling that gap.

While it's certainly possible that the actor grew tired of her superhero role at some point, Larson's recent statements directly conflict with the previously mentioned rumors. Now, Larson is seemingly enthusiastic to continue her journey with Marvel Studios. This optimism is especially impressive given The Marvels' record-low box office returns this month.

The Marvels is now playing in theaters.
