If there's one thing Star Wars fans know in a tragically intimate manner, it's the concept of waiting. Sure, it seems like every other month sees the announcement of some new project in the franchise, some big new show, or a snazzy new set of action figures that are special because they're roughly half an inch taller than other identical versions of the same figures. But when it comes to specific things, like The Mandalorian, it seems like waiting is the name of the game more often than not.

Well, those fans can begin to feel a little more hopeful, because the waiting game for The Mandalorian is... still going on, to be honest. But now, eager viewers may be able to take some solace knowing that the next season of the insanely popular Disney Plus series is finally making some real progress. After Carl Weathers teased the filming start date a few months ago, little else has been offered in the weeks since. But now, the star and stew aficionado behind the character Greef Karga has finally offered an update.

Tweeting out this milestone news, as most important information seems to be conveyed these days, Weathers officially confirmed that he has finally begun filming his own scenes for the upcoming season. "Mandalorian, season #3 begins for Yours Truly, on tomorrow," he offered. "Greef Karga will be back on Disney+." Having tweeted this out only a few days ago, he is most assuredly now in the middle of shooting, so there's some concrete news for fans to salivate over.

Weathers' character Greef Karga has rather famously had a bit of a rocky relationship with Pedro Pascal's titular Mandalorian character Din Djarin, but more recent developments have established the 2 of them as staunch (if slightly abrasive) allies. Throughout the previous season, he was seen often working with Gina Carano's Cara Dune, likely leading many fans to speculate on how her absence (or potential recasting) will end up playing out when season 3 finally releases. Even though her firing was justified given her hateful comments, it was still an abrupt change given how season 2 ended. But either way, he's become a much more influential character lately, so it will be interesting to see where the show's story takes him next.

In Karga's last appearance, which earned Weathers an Emmy nomination, he had become the Magistrate of Nevarro, the planet where Djarin first took the fateful contract that set off the events of The Mandalorian. So while it's unclear just how big of a role he'll have in the show going forward, it's clear he's going up in the world after starting the series as a simple agent of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. Maybe he'll take part in whatever big season-ending climax happens this time around, though it would certainly be difficult to top that big cameo from The Mandalorian season 2.

However things turn out, it's comforting to know that production on season 3 is well underway. The actual premiere is still a way's off, and likely won't happen until well into next year. But maybe now fans can finally look forward to new info drops in the near future. Hey, nothing wrong with being optimistic in the face of incredibly depressing odds.

The Mandalorian seasons 1-2 are now available on Disney Plus.
