In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, players will experience events leading up to Gandalf interrogating Gollum immediately before The Lord of the Rings. The game shows Gollum's time spent in Mordor and his torture at the hands of the Dark Lord.

During The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, players will frequently be offered the opportunity to determine which of Gollum's two personalities gets the final say in a variety of key decisions. This choice between the cunning Gollum and the Innocent Smeagol will alter elements of the story in a number of ways. This guide will cover one such choice near the end of the game's second chapter.

Overview

This choice happens towards the end of the game's second chapter after Gollum assists the Frail Man and his men in causing an explosion. This, perhaps unsurprisingly, leads to Gollum being interrogated about his co-conspirators, and the game offers players the chance to sell out the Frail Man or throw an antagonistic fellow Prisoner under the bus instead.

Ultimately, this choice will determine which of Gollum's Cellmates remains alive to interact with during the next chapter and has no real effect on the gameplay.

Blame the Frail Man (Gollum)

LOTR Gollum_Cruel Orc Choice

Blaming the Frail Man requires Gollum to convince Smeagol that selling out the Frail Man is the best way to keep both of them safe by repeatedly reminding Smeagol that they'll be tortured if they get caught lying to the servants of the Dark Lord.

Doing this causes the Frail Man to be dragged to the tower, but he goes out in style and seems to inspire the other prisoners in his final moments, much to the chagrin of the Orcs.

Blame the Cruel Orc (Smeagol)

LOTR Gollum_Convince to Blame the Cruel Orc

Blaming the Cruel Orc requires Smeagol to convince Gollum that the Frail Man is still useful to them and that the Cruel Orc is an acceptable target. This is easily achieved by reminding Gollum how the Cruel Orc steals their bread and how the Frail Man has connections that could be useful in getting food.

Despite his protests, the Orc will be dragged off to the Tower, with Gollum only spared due to being on "the list," according to one of the orc guards. The Orc continues protesting as the lift takes him away.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and is coming to Nintendo Switch in the future.
