The beginning of Chapter 3 in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum requires players to find and use five Feeders before Gollum can return to his cell. After the cutscene, the frail creature will travel to the Candle Man's Chambers, where he will meet and converse with the Candle Man and become his dedicated servant.
The next part of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum requires Gollum to follow the Tower Guard to the Bird Tower, where the Candle Man will allow him to breed a carrier bird. Creating the bird can be a little confusing, however, as the directions the Candle Man gives are pretty vague.
How To Breed A Carrier Bird In The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
When the player regains control of Gollum, they will be faced with a large oven, next to which lies a total of five logs. Interacting with these logs will cause one to be added to the oven, which will then permit Gollum to use the hand-bellows to the left to light a fire.
Before adding any logs to the oven, players should turn in the opposite direction and head to the far side of the room, where they will find a small blue egg in front of a birdcage.
Taking this egg and turning left toward the cauldron and the three bird-shaped flasks, players must select the "Look" option to learn how the Mormak station works.
Interacting with a flask will cause the liquid inside to pour into the cauldron. The flask on the left will fill the cauldron up with black liquid, the one in the center will fill it with brown liquid, and the final one to the right will fill it with white liquid. Three different colored birds can be created using this station, and clues as to how to create them can be found throughout the room.
Directly across from the cauldron, players can find a nest that the egg must be placed in when it is ready to be hatched. The egg should only be placed in this nest after Gollum has placed it inside the cauldron and changed its color.
How To Breed A Black Carrier Bird In The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
Once players have familiarized themselves with the layout of the room and what each station does, they can begin attempting to breed a carrier bird. The instructions on how to breed a black carrier bird can be found by jumping over the cages behind the small birdcage across from the oven and turning left. On the platform above the instructions, Gollum can also find the Feather Collectible. To create the bird, players should follow these steps:
- Pour black liquid into the cauldron.
- Take the blue egg and place it inside the cauldron.
- Take the egg back and place it in the nest across from the cauldron.
- Add two logs to the oven.
- Use the hand-bellows three times.
- Pull the lever in front of the nest.
How To Breed A White Carrier Bird In The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
The instructions on how to breed a white carrier bird can be found scribbled on the wall just right of the oven. Regarding what it says, players should follow these steps to create the white bird:
- Pour white liquid into the cauldron.
- Place the egg in the cauldron.
- Take the egg back and place it in the nest across from the cauldron.
- Place four logs in the oven.
- Use the hand-bellows twice.
- Pull the lever next to the nest.
How To Breed A Brown Carrier Bird In The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
The instructions on how to breed a brown carrier bird can be found in the far left-hand side corner of the Bird Tower on the wall to the left. Following what it says, Gollum must take these steps to create the brown carrier bird:
- Pour brown liquid into the cauldron.
- Place the egg in the cauldron.
- Take the egg back and place it in the nest across from the cauldron.
- Place three logs in the oven.
- Use the hand-bellows four times.
- Pull the lever next to the nest.
