In order for players to upgrade their own potions in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, they will first need to start catching bugs. Bugs are found all over the very linear map in Skyward Sword, and players will want to collect them all in order to fill out their Bug Collection screen.

There are two main ways to catch bugs in Skyward Sword. Players can either use a bug net or slam Link into the wall nearby to stun the bugs, then pick them up off of the floor. Because of the need for bugs to be in kind of a precise location for the slam method, it's best for players to find Beedle's shop in Skyward Sword and buy a basic bug net instead. The net will cost Link 50 Rupees, but it is well worth the investment.

Players can even upgrade the basic net with a few ingredients at the Scrap Shop, just like they can do with the Bomb Bags from Skyward Sword. They will just need an Evil Crystal, 3 Tumbleweeds, and 2 Ancient flowers along with their bug net to get the big bug net, an upgrade that makes catching bugs easier.

In order to catch bugs, players need to equip their net. Then, they will need to sneak up on the bug by using the slowest movement speed possible. As soon as the bug is in range, they can hit the interact button, and the net will swoop down to catch the bug. If players are having trouble, they can use Glittering Spores to help stun bugs to make them easier to catch. These are found in Faron Woods, in the mushrooms by the eastern entrance.

Players can also find more bugs by purchasing a Bug Medal from Beetle's Airshop. This will cost 1,000 rupees, but it will mark on the map where bugs are likely to be found, making it easier to farm the bugs in any given area.

Using Bugs to Infuse Potions

There are two main things to do with bugs after they have been caught in Skyward Sword. The first is to use them for infusing into potions. In order to do this, players will need to bring their basic potions with them to see Bertie in the Bazaar. Players will just need to give Bertie their potions and the bugs, and the game will do the rest. Infusing potions with certain bugs will change the boost that it receives. Listed below are all the bugs in the game, their sell value, and the types of potions they can be infused in.

Players will want to locate Strich at the Knight Academy if they are looking to get some Rupees for their bugs. This NPC will only want to purchase three types of bugs in a given day, but thankfully, players can sleep in his bed to move time forward until he's buying the right types of bugs. Later in the game after the battle with the Skyward Sword boss Bilocyte, Strich will move to Bug Island near Thunderhead.
