The upcoming Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening reimagines a 1990s GameBoy classic for the modern era. However, some fans have worried that the game will not support a very modern era feature: cloud saves.

Cloud saves allow players to back up their save data in case something happens to their precious console. The feature made its way into the Switch through its online subscription service, which Nintendo launched last year. While the cloud save service doesn't support every single Switch game, it has, so far, supported most of the first-party Nintendo titles.

However, the listing for Link's Awakening on the UK Nintendo store cause some alarm for fans when they noticed distressing wording on the page. The game listing specifically stated that the game would not support the cloud save backup feature.

While some fans went into a panic, others began to investigate. One fan pointed out that the information seemed unclear because the US eShop had cloud saves listed as "Supported." This helped calm the confusion some, but still didn't quite put fans at ease.

After the cloud save debacle began making headlines, a user reached out to Nintendo's support team. In a move that might make Nintendo fans feel like they have gone a bit looney, the support rep reported that they did not see the wording on the Nintendo UK page and that the page said the game will feature cloud saves. It seems Nintendo sneakily updated the page in the interim.

When the Switch launched in 2017, it did not support the ability to back up game saves over the internet. Nintendo gave the excuse that Cloud Saves allowed people to hack the Switch in ways they otherwise couldn't. This upset players who didn't understand why it seemed impossible for the Switch when other consoles made it work just fine. Nintendo finally gave in and added Cloud Saves to the Switch online subscription last year.

Fans celebrated this news. With the Switch's portability, fans felt nervous taking the console with them when they knew they might lose their cloud backup data. Luckily, game save data is safer now and players won't have to worry about losing their progress.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be available September 20th on Switch.
