8 Magic Powder

Turn Enemies Into Fairies

Magic Powder is an optional item that can make life easier with certain enemies. Using it on those pickled enemies, for example, who shock Link can often turn them into Fairies which can then restore health.

To get Magical Powder, players must first find a Mushroom in the Lost Woods. They can then give that item to a witch making potions outside of the hut and she will bestow Link with Magical Powder. It is a magic-based item, so every time players use it the meter will drain.

7 Magical Boomerang

Throw The Boomerang Further

• Location: Waterfall of Wishing

Players will find the normal Boomerang in the castle dungeon when they are trying to rescue Zelda in the game’s opening. It can stun enemies very briefly and bring items to Link such as ammo for his Bow or Rupees.

The Boomerang can be upgraded in the Waterfall of Wishing. By tossing it in the well, players can get the Magical Boomerang back. It does everything but better such as the length of time enemies are stunned as well as the distance.

6 Ice Rod

Freeze Enemies In Place

• Location: Ice Cave

The Ice Rod is another optional item and it can be acquired pretty early in the game. It’s far easier to get than the Fire Rod which is a mandatory late-game find. The Ice Rod can be found in the Ice Cave far to the East.

With Zora’s Flippers, players can swim in deep water to their heart’s content. One of the first things players should do is swim underneath the bridge by Link’s house to get a Magic Bottle.

4 Pegasus Boots

Dash Around The World In Style

• Location: Eastern Palace

The Pegasus Boots are given to Link by Sahasrahla in a small hut around the Eastern Palace property. They will allow players to dash around in a straight line. They’re great to get around the map or dungeons faster but they have a practical purpose too.

Certain walls can be destroyed in the game which can save players from wasting Bombs. If Grezzo is ever remade like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, they should make the Pegasus Boots more maneuverable which is the only downside to the item.

3 Flute

Summon A Bird To Unlock Fast Travel

• Location: Haunted Grove (Light World)

The Flute is the best traversal item in the game and it is also part of one of the lengthier quests. Players must first get the Shovel item in the Dark World in the Haunted Grove. After that, they can dig around the stump in the light version of the Haunted Grove to find the Flute.

1 Magic Bottle

There are four Magic Bottles in the game and they occupy a separate space in the item menu. The first one players can obtain is in Kakariko Village. There is a village peddler who can give Link one and there is the back of a house with another Magic Bottle too in Kakariko Village.

The third one was mentioned with Zora’s Flippers and the fourth requires some patience around the Desert Palace. Magic Bottles can be used to store potions for healing or bees to sting enemies. Fairies can be stored in them as well and if Link dies, a caught Fairy will automatically revive him which is great for boss battles. Their versatility is what makes them so valuable in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
