The Legend of Vox Machina is a show funded, animated, and made in its entirety by Critical Role, or as they like to say, "a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors who sit around and play Dungeons and Dragons."

This bunch of friends ended up making one of the most well-thought-through and exciting settings in Dungeons and Dragons. What was Campaign 1 of the Critical Role enterprise went on to become The Legend of Vox Machina, an animated show on Amazon Prime. Its success is based mainly on the cast, along with the intriguing characters and their relationships, but also their unique abilities.

10 Cassandra de Rolo - In Two Minds

Cassandra de Rolo as she stabs Delilah Briarwood.

Cassandra is an interesting case as far as the victims of Briarwood manipulation go. It is always clear that Cass, although under a powerful charm spell, had some bit of underlying resentment for Percy and his escape.

Cassandra's strength is more so one of a survivor; she endured the abuse and torment of the Briarwoods, and being their captive and not fully turning (like Professor Anders) requires a lot of will power and strength of spirit.

9 Scanlan Shorthalt - Support Like A Bard

Scanlan in his fight against Goran Vedmire.

Scanlan, whether the viewer takes to him or despises him, is an incredibly crafty and capable individual. This cheeky gnome uses music, primarily his lute, to cast and amplify his spells that either support or deal damage.

The best example of his versatility is him silencing Delilah Briarwood in Vox Machina's epic showdown with the Briarwoods at the Ziggurat. Had Delilah not been shushed at exactly the right time, the fight would have been as good as over.

8 Vax'ildan - Shadow Stepper Extraordinaire

Vax'ildan, receiving a flower made from the Druidcraft of Keyleth.

Rogues, in general, tend to be the most stealthy and agile class, and Vax'ildan is no exception. With returning daggers and his exceptional furtive capabilities, there is hardly a situation that he can't wriggle out of.

His prowess was on full display when he snuck into Sylas and Delilah's quarters to snoop on their plans and figure out why they had decided to leave Whitestone, which had shocked Percy rather uncharacteristically.

7 Percival de Rolo III - The Heir To Whitestone

Percy as Orthax takes over him.

Possibly one of the most traumatized characters with the most horrible backstory possible, Percival, or Percy, is unique in Tal'Dorei. Being a gun-toter in a world that has not even had the opportunity to aspire to it is rather special and daring.

He dubs his Pepperbox as "a potent tool," and although it is rather badass, his most impressive invention up to date is Bad News, a huge longarm rifle-type weapon that is seen blowing one of Delilah's security giants to smithereens. Bad News and Pepperbox, though a little unreliable, are best wielded in the skilled hands of Percival de Rolo.

6 Vex'ahlia - A Leader By Virtue

Vex'ahlia blowing a kiss to the men at the prison camp where they plan to rescue Archibald Desnay.

Any good group worth its salt needs a no-nonsense leader that can rally people and, mostly, get them to stick to the plan. Vex'ahlia, though not the official leader of Vox Machina, is someone who often takes the role of the leader due to her foresight and her ability to remain calm in situations where it would be nearly impossible to.

When Percy was battling Orthax, he had little to no control over who he was shooting or pointing the Pepperbox at. Vex was the first to step in front of the loaded pistol and actively try and convince Percy to come to his senses.

5 Sylas Briarwood - He Lives To Serve

Sylas Briarwood and Delilah Briarwood, onlooking victims of their tribute rituals.

Though Sylas mostly goes along with Delilah's plans and rituals, he often shows the viewer how terrifying his power can be. Not only is he a vampire, he is also an incredibly physically strong fighter.

In addition to that, his sword feasts on the blood of whatever it cuts and consequently grows larger. He is able to match Grog in physical strength and even has him on the ropes in their first fight.

4 Delilah Briarwood - A Love, Corrupted

Delilah Briarwood

Delilah Briarwood serves as the main antagonist for the first season of the show, and as such is a brutal force that needs to be recognized. She is able to raise and summon the dead, along with being able to weave the tethers of powerful arcana.

Lady Briarwood's powers are not the only scary thing about her. She is also a shrewd politician as the viewer is able to see her try and manipulate the narrative around Whitestone, as she does so with King Uriel.

3 Keyleth - Nature's Kindness and Wrath

Keyleth, unleashing her Daylight spell on the Ziggurat.

A force of nature is the only accurate way to describe Keyleth of the Air Ashari. Ready at her fingertips is the magic of the wilds. Keyleth's powers are raw and primordial.

The only thing that holds Keyleth back is her lack of confidence within herself, which she actively tries to overcome in the series. Her worries and nervousness are largely unfounded, as she has shown herself to be strong many times in the series. Most strikingly, she was only one of two who could facilitate the demise of the Briarwoods and could enable the others to take them down due to her summoning of the light.

2 Grog - Who Needs a Sword?

Grog and Pike standing as Lady Allura chastises them.

Grog is perhaps the most technically strong character in the series. As a barbarian, having a high strength stat is common, and as such, Grog is not a surprise entry on this list.

Fighting Grog is a scary prospect, and this was especially well displayed when he was under the control of Professor Anders. The team of Vox Machina, save Pike, found it supremely difficult to restrain Grog and stand up to him when he unleashed his attacks on them.

1 Pike - A Holy, Holy Gnome

Pike Trickfoot showcasing her powers in Scanlan's song montage for Vox Machina.

Standing tall in all of her gnomish glory, Pike strikes with the divine virtue of the Everlight. Not only can the cleric heal, but she can also deal massive amounts of damage, especially if her targets are unholy.

All of Vox Machina and the citizens of Whitestone would all be six feet under had she not completely turned the tides in their favor by wielding her holy powers against the undead that Delilah had raised. She is the strongest of the group, and is often the moral compass of the group.
