The Last of Us arrives on HBO Max in less than a month, and fans are looking forward to this series with high expectations. So far, the first trailer introduced them to Bella Ramsey's Ellie and Pedro Pascal's Joel. However, the latest teaser released by the streaming service offers the first look at clickers, some of the infected monsters that the protagonists encounter during their journey.

The Last of Us series is based on the popular game franchise of the same name, where Ellie is introduced as an individual immune to the infection destroying the world. Clickers are among those who have been infected and mutated into horrific monsters. Fans who have played the games are aware of their appearance, but to see them for the first time in live-action form has got them talking about the accuracy of the adaptation.

The Last of Us teaser trailer shared by HBO Max begins with the revelation that Ellie is immune to the infection, news that doesn’t surprise fans of the games. The plot seems quite similar to the first game in the franchise, where Joel takes on the responsibility to take her “West” and help a team trying to find a cure for the disease. As part of this journey, they come across “infected, raiders, and clickers.” This is when fans get a glimpse of what the clickers will look like in the live-action adaptation, and it is similar to the games

The entire teaser trailer will remind fans of moments from the first The Last of Us game. It seems like the creators are staying true to the franchise and retaining the theme and perhaps most of the storyline. However, since it is an adaptation, the production team could potentially take creative liberties with the plot and various sequences. Either way, fans are excited to see what the HBO Max series offers.

One thing that the series seems to have retained entirely is the relationship between the protagonists Joel and Ellie. In the first The Last of Us game, the two form an immediate bond, almost like a father-daughter duo. That bond is evident in the live-action adaptation on the trailers released so far. However, there is no telling what direction the series will go in, as details of the plot are still hidden. The official synopsis confirms that the two characters will be “forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across post-pandemic America.” But how this trek ends remains a mystery until the series premieres.

The Last of Us premieres on HBO Max on January 15, 2023.
