Of all the video game adaptations making their way to television and film in the next few years, The Last of Us HBO series might be one of the most exciting. Written by Craig Mazin, wh0 also penned the limited run HBO series Chernobyl, the show seeks to adapt the brutal world of the game into an entirely new format.
Recently, The Last of Us show announced that Pedro Pascal would assume the role of Joel Miller for the series, accompanied by Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey as Ellie. With the official casting now out of the way, fans are doing what they do best – creating mock-ups of what the actors could look like in their roles. This time around, Reddit user Misty1780 has shared a stellar rendition of what Pedro Pascal might look like in Joel's iconic green flannel.
Done in portrait style, the painting shows just how well Pedro Pascal fits as Joel. Pascal's hair and face, as depicted in the painting, fit surprisingly well with the version of Joel that fans have grown accustomed to in the game series. What really completes the look, however, is the beard, which essentially seals the look as legitimate.

Obviously, the amount of detail in the painting is mind-numbing. Misty1708 has effectively managed to blend a stylized painting with a realistic look, with an end product that makes the prospect of seeing Pascal portray Joel on screen all the more exciting. Of course, there will be some differences when the show finally airs, but if the team of makeup artists working on The Last of Us is able to mirror what's been created here, fans can at least rest assured that Joel's look will be a success.
The question now is whether or not fans will get a rendition of Bella Ramsey as Ellie similar to this. Seeing both members of the iconic duo, especially this far away from the series premiere, should help carry the excitement over for as long as the show needs. While the artwork not being official dulls that excitement a bit, there still seems to be a lot to look forward to.
With a flood of video game properties being adapted into movies and films, fans can only hope that they do right by the source material. Video game movies have earned a bad reputation due to a long string of lackluster films. With the situation gradually improving, though, anything seems possible for the next wave of shows.
