Highlights

  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered for PS5 offers improved visuals and gameplay, including 4K textures and faster loading times.
  • A player discovered that some of the 4K textures contain lorem ipsum dummy text, which may suggest a lack of attention to detail in the remastering process.
  • Despite this minor issue, the remastered version has received positive reviews and offers new content for both new and longtime fans of the game.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered boasts some pretty good-looking 4K textures, but one player found that the downside of the ultra-high-resolution images is that they've been stuffed with some lorem ipsum details. Although The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has been subjected to some criticism, this little "issue" is at least on the harmless and funny side.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered just released on January 19 as the PlayStation 5's first exclusive for 2024. The remastered version takes advantage of the PS5's better specs and capabilities, bringing fans more beautiful visuals at a smooth 60fps, faster loading times, and a more immersive play experience with the DualSense controller. It also gives longtime fans new content to play, such as the Lost Levels and the No Return roguelike mode.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Review

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered's PS5 enhancements and No Return mode make it the best way to experience Naughty Dog's masterpiece.

Redditor shawak456 posted their discovery in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which is a screenshot of a book a character in the game is reading. Because of the 4K textures, the text on the book is now readable, and it turns out to be full of nothing but the infamous lorem ipsum dummy text. This text is made up of fake Latin-sounding gibberish intended to fill a layout with copy, and Naughty Dog's use of this simply implies that they didn't take the extra time and effort to populate their game universe further in the remastering process. While it's acceptable for almost all players for developers to do something like this for a detail most won't even notice, it still could be considered slightly uncharacteristic of Naughty Dog, as they've been known to put in intricate details in a few The Last of Us scenes.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered debuted to glowing reviews, with many players feeling like it's the best way to play the game, especially for those who haven't gotten to play the original. The game makes good use of the PS5's capabilities, and the new content is worth old fans' time. It's certainly a stark contrast to the earlier controversies that plagued The Last of Us Part 2 during its initial release in 2020, with many people review-bombing the game before it launched because of the story's progressive themes and elements.

Perhaps in avoidance of another possible controversy, Sony is also making sure that players' experiences with the game are as smooth as possible. The company has also been refunding some players who had mistakenly bought The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered at full price, as those who already had the original in their account could buy the PS5 upgrade for only $10. Between this and the game's positive feedback, Sony is clearly opening the year quite strong.
