The Last of Us Part 1 is Naughty Dog's "ground-up remake of The Last of Us": the title that changed the gaming industry when it was released back in 2013 for the PS3. Set to be the team's true version of the game free from the constraints of technology, The Last of Us Part 1 is mere days away from its September 2 release. Ahead of the release, a brand-new video has debuted that shares footage of the gameplay fans can expect along with a trip down memory lane in a very familiar setting.

As the remake has been inching closer to its release date, Naughty Dog has shared information on what has changed from a technological point of view such as the major improvements to The Last of Us Part 1's accessibility, AI enhancements, and graphical upgrades. Fans haven't received a proper look at real-time gameplay, yet the newest trailer addresses that issue with a full seven minutes of Joel, Ellie, and Bill in Bill's Town.

In seven minutes of footage captured on the PS5, Joel and Ellie follow Bill into the local school in search of a car battery. Joel seamlessly switches between his variety of firearms, crafted equipment, and melee weapons in order to dispose of the infected who have seen noticeable reworks to their behavior in Naughty Dog's remake. The trailer ends with a showdown against one of the fearsome Bloaters, although it's made quick work of by the trio.

The scene itself plays out nearly identical as it did in 2013's iteration of the game, although the demo serves as an impressive technical showcase. With The Last of Us Part 2 serving as such a huge inspiration as to why Naughty Dog wanted to go through with this remake, it really shows itself in this trailer versus the various comparison images of The Last of Us Part 1. The fire from a Molotov burns brightly until it fades out, enemies burst with gore when hit by explosives, and the visual upgrades to facial features are incredibly well-done.

As previously mentioned, this is the first real-time footage fans of the upcoming remake have seen. Hefty criticism has been thrown towards Naughty Dog's remake with fans labeling it a cash grab, and while this trailer doesn't exactly help its case, it sure is indicative of how committed the team is to making this a technical marvel.

The Last of Us Part 1 is scheduled to launch on September 2, 2022, on PS5, and a PC release is also in development.
