In this section of The Last of Us Part 1, players will be able to resume their journey after narrowly escaping the Humvee and friendly faces return, though the reunion is a little tense to start. During this chapter, players will be able to gather several artifacts written by a man named Ish and the community he helped to build in the sewers.
It is widely considered by fans to be one of the best side stories told through these collectibles, and will leave players with a greater understanding of the highs and lows of surviving in this post-apocalyptic world. Here is where players can find the artifacts in the sixth chapter, the Suburbs.
Boat Note
After reuniting with Henry and Sam, players can explore a boat on the shore with Ellie. Inside the cabin, players can collect the first artifact of the chapter.
Sewers Note
Once inside the sewers, players will come across a blocked door. To get in, they'll need to open a grate to the left for Ellie to crawl through, and she will then move the crate out of the way. If players then head up the short set of stairs inside the room, there will be a note on the table to the left.
Trading Note
While on the search for a way to get Ellie, Henry, and Sam across the water, players will need to swim into another section of the sewers before climbing a ladder to find a trusty pallet to bring back. Before doing so, players should head into a room to the right, but be warned there are two Clickers inside that may cause some problems for hasty players. After dispatching the Infected, they can find a note amongst various bits of discarded materials and books.
Rain Catcher Note
After being attacked by a group of Infected, players will be free to head into a room on the right. Inside will be miscellaneous clutter and a body on the far side, and the next artifact can be collected on the corner of a table.
Cornered Note
From the previous artifact, players will need to head back out into the area where their companions are waiting and vault over the obstacle to go where some Infected appeared beforehand. If they go up the stairs and look behind the chair and wooden screen, they'll find a door that can be opened. Here, players will be able to collect a note from the ground by a group of bodies.
Kid's Drawing
Players will reach a point in the chapter where Joel and Sam become separated from Henry and Ellie. Unfortunately, Sam is not confident in a fight, and it’s up to players to keep both him and Joel safe in this area as it’s infested with Stalkers and Clickers. By either passing through quietly or taking each of the Infected down, players will eventually get to their destination and Sam will wait for Joel at the top of a ledge. Before leaving, players should turn around and look along the left-hand wall as there is an artifact that can be collected beneath a chalkboard.
Looting Note
After leaving the sewers, players will find themselves in the remains of a suburban neighborhood. There will be a house on the right with an open doorway for players to enter, and the next artifact can be found in the bedroom upstairs with the bunk bed on top of a chest of drawers.
Father's Note
On the second street opposite the ice cream van, players can explore a red brick house. This artifact is upstairs and can be found through the first door on the left on top of a desk.
Survivors Note
Moving a little further down the street, closer to the two dogs, is a white house with a red symbol painted on the front. Players should walk down the hallway until reaching the stairs on the right and head up to the second floor, entering the first room on the left. This note can be found on the ground next to the chest of drawers.
Matchbook
In the same house as before, players can ascend another level of stairs to reach another bedroom. Immediately to the right of the stairs is a shelf unit with a matchbook resting on top. It includes the combination for the safe in the same room as the previous artifact.
There are a total of 99 notes and artifacts that can be found across both The Last of Us Part 1 and its expansion Left Behind. Collecting them all will reward players with the trophy, “Chronicles.”
