The fifth chapter of The Last of Us Part 1 sees Joel and Ellie finally make headway on tracking down the Fireflies. As players forge ahead through Pittsburgh, newfound trust is developed between the duo as they begin to open up more about themselves.
Players will have an opportunity to fight against human and Infected enemies over the course of the chapter, most notably introducing a new faction known as Hunters who overthrew the military in Pittsburgh to take control. With this being the longest chapter of the game, players will be able to collect many artifacts to learn about the struggle that took place in the city and witness its aftermath.
There are a total of 99 notes and artifacts that can be found across both The Last of Us Part 1 and its expansion Left Behind. Collecting them all will reward players with the trophy, “Chronicles”. Here is where players can find the artifacts in Pittsburgh.
Siphon Hose
The siphon hose is given to Joel by Bill at the end of the previous chapter, and is automatically added to the player’s inventory.
Tourist Manifest
After the Hunters ambush Joel and Ellie, players will take refuge in a garage and inside will be the bodies of previous victims of the Hunters. At the back of the room to the right, players can collect a manifest that lists the people’s possessions that the Hunters have looted from them.
Ambush Map
As players leave this room, there is a set of stairs that can be climbed. At the top, players can find the Hunters’ sleeping quarters to the right alongside resources. The room opposite the stairs has a workbench as well as a map stuck on the wall to the right.
Lost Hill Note
Joel and Ellie must climb over a truck to reach an abandoned military checkpoint to progress, but before heading through the barriers, players can go to the right over a short wall of sandbags. Here, they can collect some parts on a table as well as another artifact on the ground.
Traitor's Flyer
After passing through the checkpoint, there will be a group of Hunters patrolling outside the bookshop that players can either take out stealthily or through more aggressive means. To find the artifact, players will need to head through the opening in front, which has the red FEDRA sign above it. Immediately to the right of the gray container will be a flyer stuck on the wall.
Applicant Checklist
Players should now head into the Kingston Bookstore from the previous artifact location and take a right. Beneath the stairs is a single bookcase where players can find this checklist. Players should also note that if they decided to take a stealthy route when taking down the Hunters outside, the ones inside will still be unaware of their presence.
Abandon Zone Note
From the previous artifact, players should head straight to the other side of the bookstore until they reach the kitchen. The note can be found next to the coffee machine on a countertop.
Lost Areas Map
On the second floor of the Kingston Bookstore, players can find a Shiv Door next to the Rivers Café. Shiv Doors require players to sacrifice one full shiv to pry the door open. Inside will be various resources for the taking, including the lost areas map in this case.
Mother's Letter
After watching the Hunters cross a makeshift bridge into the hotel, players can take a left at the taxi cab to find another Shiv Door. Inside, there is a yellow chair with a mother’s letter resting on the seat.
Stash Note
After jumping into the water to get a bridge set up for Joel and Ellie to cross, players can swim to the left inside the back of a partially submerged truck. Follow this path until reaching an opening with a set of stairs and walk up to find the second floor of the Rivers Café. There will be a bench beneath a couple of crooked framed posters with a note that can be picked up, as well as some resources up for grabs.
Note to Staff
Once players have set up the ladder to climb up, take a left and shimmy along the narrow path. There will be a few suitcases in the corner before reaching a set of stairs. The open suitcase has a note inside that players can collect, which also has a combination for a safe in the area.
Hotel Keycard
Upon falling down the elevator shaft, Joel is separated from Ellie and begins searching for a way back up. To find the hotel keycard, players will need to head up the ramp created by fallen rubble and go towards the left after reaching the upper floor. Take a right here and continue straight into a security room where the security door card can be found on the desk. Picking up the card will trigger a short encounter with a group of Stalkers, who will be waiting for their chance to ambush the player.
Fireflies' Note
Heading towards the right where the hanged body is, players should find the sandwich shop, Don Jiocchi. From behind the counter, players can follow a blood trail leading into one of the back rooms and the artifact can be found on the ground.
Final Attack Note
Inside the bank, players can find this next note on the ground behind a desk on the second floor. Look for the blue wall with the sign Bank of Meridian and head into the office area to the left, and the desk in question is the one at the back on the right.
Mob Attack Note
As the chapter starts, players will be able to see a police car parked in front of an open doorway. Head inside this building and go up the stairs where a few Hunters are (or were) stationed and continue past the broken wall before taking a right. The note will be sitting on the floor behind the desk and chair.
Truck Note
Inside the bank that is now labeled as a Ration Depot, players can find an artifact on a table in the main room before the Shiv Door next to the bloodied FEDRA poster.
Trial Note
After meeting Henry and Sam, players will need to follow their new companions for a short time before arriving in an office building. Players should head into the room directly to the left of the sign that says Duality Architecture. Inside this meeting room, players can collect the final artifact from this chapter to the far right.
