The shock may have worn off in the years since the game's release, but many players were surprised when The Last Of Us 2 let them step into the shoes of Abby. You'd be forgiven for wanting to rush through her segments, especially if you'd truly felt Ellie's desire for revenge. Rewards lie in wait for players taking things slow and steady, however. There are many well-hidden trophies lurking in Abby's section of the game.

Almost immediately after taking control of Joel's killer, you'll get a chance to prove your shooting skills in a somewhat friendly competition. Your opponent is Manny, and the Sharpshooter trophy tasks players with beating his score. It can be a tough one to unlock, especially if you don't see it coming, but a walk in the park when compared to Grounded mode or the all-new roguelike mode No Return.

How To Unlock the 'Sharpshooter' Trophy

The Last Of Us 2 Abby and Manny at a gun range. Manny says 'I'm requesting that gun next time.'

As mentioned above, this trophy is earned early on during Seattle Day 1 when playing as Abby. It's easy to miss if you're eager to get out of the stadium, but you should make a manual save (options, save game, and choose a slot) after signing some papers, as Manny invites you to join him in the shooting range soon after. General tips and things worth knowing are as follows:

  • Aim for the red part of the target's chest. This gives the highest score, and is easier to hit than the head.
  • Take it slow and steady to let your aim 'reset' after each shot. There's no time pressure to worry about.
  • Manny always gets a score of 83, and the highest score you can get is 90.
  • You've only got one magazine to use. Shots remaining can be seen in the bottom right.
  • Turn on aim assist by selecting Options and going to Controls. There, you can enable:
    • Aim Assist (with strength from 1 to 10)
    • Lock-On Aim (on or off)
    • Lock-On Strength (with strength from 1 to 10)
  • Similarly, weapon sway can be disabled by pressing Options and entering the Accessibility menu.
  • If you lose, load the manual save (options, load game, and choose the slot you saved in earlier).

If you didn't make a manual save before the competition, then you'll need to restart the whole chapter to try again. Loading a checkpoint won't help, unfortunately, as the game makes an autosave right after the competition ends. If you're really struggling and don't mind starting another playthrough (to gather collectibles, for example), then the Sharpshooter trophy can be made trivial in new game plus. Upgrading Abby's rifle with a scope during your first playthrough will see the same scope added to the rifle she uses in the competition. Thankfully, Manny doesn't object to the obvious advantage.

No matter how the final score is reached, surpassing Manny with a score of 84 or more will see the Sharpshooter trophy unlock.
