The Isle is about the survival of the fittest, which players strive to achieve in various ways. Most find that safety in numbers is the best strategy, while others do the opposite and keep to themselves. Although going at it alone seems counteractive to survival, a lone dinosaur has the advantage of not drawing attention and having to look out only for itself. Sure, a solo dinosaur will have to be warier of others and their surroundings, but ultimately playing alone is a more dynamic and engaging experience, at least when players use the right dino.

The Isle features a variety of dinosaurs, each with its strengths, weaknesses, and unique capabilities that set them apart. Many seem to perform far better alongside others, depending on their pack to bolster them and compensate for their shortcomings. Alternatively, some dinosaurs are meant or well-suited for surviving alone, needing nothing more than their abilities and instinct to stay alive. These dinosaurs are impressive survivalists and independents that are undoubtedly the most suitable choices for playing solo in The Isle.

6 Diabloceratops

The Isle Diabloceratops
  • Health: 350-950 (Juvenile), 1700-3250 (Adult)
  • Growth Duration: 25 min (Hatchling), 80 min (Juvenile), 100 min (Adult)
  • Stamina: 100-100 (Juvenile), 100-150 (Adult)

  • Hunger: 38-60 (Juvenile), 60-155 (Adult)
  • Thirst: 30-30 min (Juvenile), 30-50 (Adult)

The Diabloceratops is a formidable herbivore from the Late Cretaceous period, living around 79 million years ago. This hulking ceratopsian is a passive and docile dinosaur, yet its deadly set of horns and impressive strength make it a capable foe to any brave enough to challenge. Although herbivores typically travel in herds, the Diabloceratops is one of the most viable dinosaurs for solo play in The Isle. Not only is the Diabloceratops a well-rounded and hardy herbivore, but it can also hold its own in battle.

The Diabloceratops boasts the necessary stats for surviving alone, impressive health, stamina, speed, and growth duration, while still being able to inflict considerable damage and cause significant bleeding. Thus, the Diabloceratops can avoid most predators and endure grievous attacks while still having the option to fight back against aggressors, presenting a strenuous challenge to carnivores like the Allosaurus. The only gripe of this sturdy and imposing ceratopsian is its substantial hunger, which requires it to eat a lot of food very often.

5 Dilophosaurus

The Isle Dilophosaurus
  • Health: 250-650 (Juvenile), 650-1050 (Adult)
  • Grow Duration: 20 min (Hatchling), 50 min (Juvenile), 60 min (Adult)
  • Stamina: 100-200 (Juvenile), 100-150 (Adult)
  • Speed: 39 kmh (Juvenile), 45 kmh (Adult)
  • Hunger: 83-216 (Juvenile), 216-350 (Adult)
  • Thirst: 45-60 min (Juvenile), 20-60 min (Adult)

The Dilophosaurus is a menacing carnivore from the Early Jurassic period, living around 193 million years ago. This frightening theropod is an opportunistic nocturnal hunter that takes advantage of the quiet of night to ambush unsuspecting prey. Every characteristic and behavior of the Dilophosaurus lends it to being a lone predator that thrives in The Isle when it is alone. The Dilophosaurus's penchant for nighttime hunting and good all-around capabilities make it a deadly force, especially when working independently.

The Dilophosaurus has all the recommended qualities of a solo dinosaur, good stamina, outstanding speed, great hunger, and short growth duration. These characteristics are advantageous, but its most beneficial features are its unprecedented night vision and ability to inflict lethal bleed damage that allows it to ambush and defeat the most ruthless dinosaurs, like the domineering Tyrannosaurus Rex, in the dead of night. The only downside to the Dilophosaurus is its restricting reliance on nighttime while making daytime especially dangerous.

4 Maiasaura

The Isle Maiasaura
  • Health: 50-748 (Juvenile), 748-2868 (Adult)
  • Grow Duration: 20 min (Hatchling), 50 min (Juvenile), 60 min (Adult)
  • Stamina: 80-110 (Juvenile), 110-180 (Adult)
  • Speed: 45 kmh (Juvenile), 45 kmh (Adult)
  • Hunger: 15-74 (Juvenile), 74-275 (Adult)
  • Thirst: 20-40 min (Juvenile), 40-60 min (Adult)

The Maiasaura is an expeditious herbivore from the Late Cretaceous period, living around 76 million years ago. This tremendous hadrosaurid is a peaceful dinosaur that relies on speed to compensate for its poor offensive capabilities. Despite being a predominately herd-reliant herbivore, the Maiasaura performs surprisingly well on its own and is arguably one of the better dinosaurs for solo play in The Isle. The Maiasaura has the benefit of being a sizable herbivore yet also boasts a speed outmatching most other dinosaurs.

The Maiasaura has good stamina, outstanding speed, impressive defenses, and notably short growth duration, which are characteristics advantageous for a lone dinosaur. Smaller predators are no danger to this hadrosaurid as it is massive, while more substantial dinosaurs have trouble getting the jump on and effectively catching it due to its quickness. The only dinosaurs capable of matching the Maiasaura's swiftness are those like the Carnotaurus, and even then, they struggle to do so. The only flaw of this herbivore is its considerable size, which makes covert moving and hiding near impossible.

3 Carnotaurus

The Isle Carnotaurus
  • Health: 120-350 (Juvenile), 350-2170 (Adult)
  • Grow Duration: 25 min (Hatchling), 40 min (Juvenile), 70 min (Adult)
  • Stamina: 280-300 (Juvenile), 300-440 (Adult)
  • Speed: 37 kmh (Juvenile), 52 kmh (Adult)
  • Hunger: 50-135 (Juvenile), 135-800 (Adult)
  • Thirst: 60-60 min (Juvenile), 60-60 min (Adult)

The Carnotaurus is a ferocious carnivore from the Late Cretaceous period, living around 72 million years ago. This almost bull-like theropod is a powerhouse capable of devastating attacks and blistering speeds that allow it to surprise unsuspecting prey with a headlong assault. These qualities make the Carnotaurus an impeccable ambusher and an outstanding choice for solo play in The Isle. Although the Carnotaurus is incomparable in terms of sheer power to other predators, it is undoubtedly one of the best lone hunters.

Being one of the fastest dinosaurs and boasting a well-rounded array of stats, the Carnotaurus is a near-perfect predator when hunting alone, especially considering its lack of kinship with other Carnotaurus as they are notorious cannibals. Its outstanding speed and catastrophic damage-inflicting potential allow it to prey on nearly any dinosaur its size or smaller, which in conjunction with its cannibalistic diet, grants it a vast and easy-to-hunt food selection. However, the Carnotaurus is notably susceptible to larger carnivores and combative herbivores.

2 Dryosaurus

The Isle Dryosaurus
  • Health: 50-350 (Juvenile-Adult)
  • Grow Duration: 30 min (Hatchling-Adult)
  • Stamina: 100-160 (Juvenile-Adult)
  • Speed: 37 kmh (Juvenile), 55 kmh (Adult)
  • Hunger: 170 (Juvenile-Adult)
  • Thirst: 30 min (Juvenile-Adult)

The Dryosaurus is a meek herbivore from the Late Jurassic period, living around 155 million years ago. This relatively small ornithopod may seem like a useless herbivore with an unfavorable life, but it is a surprisingly capable survivalist. Many believe the Dryosaurus can only live a lasting life when a part of a herd, yet it is arguably the best herbivore for solo play in The Isle, for a good reason. The Dryosaurus is among the fastest and most frustratingly elusive dinosaurs in the game, making it an herbivore many predators will avoid pursuing.

The Dryosaurus's strengths are its size, speed, and ability to dodge devastating attacks, which prove beneficial when surviving alone. These qualities make it a very infuriating target to catch for most predators, especially those significantly slower or larger. Even if a predator can find the Dryosaurus in a disadvantageous position, managing to land a hit on the deft and slippery herbivore is more trouble than worthwhile. The only fault of this evasive herbivore is its negligible defenses, which leave it prey to even the most unimpressive carnivores.

1 Allosaurus

The Isle Allosaurus
  • Health: 200-1100 (Juvenile), 1050-2800 (Adult)
  • Grow Duration: 30 min (Hatchling), 60 min (Juvenile), 120 min (Adult)
  • Stamina: 60-130 (Juvenile), 130-200 (Adult)
  • Speed: 31 kmh (Juvenile), 34 kmh (Adult)
  • Hunger: 90-457 (Juvenile), 457-816 (Adult)
  • Thirst: 20-50 min (Juvenile), 50-60 min (Adult)

The Allosaurus is an imposing carnivore from the Late Jurassic period, living around 155 million years ago. This petrifying theropod is perfectly balanced overall, making it an all-around exceptional dinosaur to be feared by most, whether herbivore or carnivore. The well-rounded qualities of the Allosaurus make it a popular choice as it is a frightening pack hunter that still poses a significant threat on its own, making it arguably the best carnivore for solo play in The Isle. The Allosaurus has no downsides stat-wise, thus making it a capable lone hunter.

Most of the Allosaurus's stats are either average or notably superior, allowing it to stand above other dinosaurs in one aspect or another. This balanced set of proficiencies grants much versatility, which is a valuable trait when surviving the environment of The Isle alone. The Allosaurus can survive in most environments, evade or combat most assailants, and prove deadly to most other dinosaurs. The only discernable downside is, ironically, the Allosaurus's greatest strength, as it does not excel in any particular way that is meaningful enough.

The Isle is available on PC.
