Host Geoff Keighley presents The Game Awards 2016 live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. Find out which games took home the top prizes!

Serving as the closest thing video games have to the Oscars or the Emmys, The Game Awards 2016 took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. And while this year's event had plenty of bells and whistles to boast about - like its 4K resolution support and the option to watch the entire thing in virtual reality - the focus was still on video games, game developers, and fans.

The competition for The Game Awards 2016 was fierce. Five excellent games all vied for the coveted Game of the Year prize, including big budget blockbusters like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End from Naughty Dog as well as the small indie game Inside, both of which earned near-universal praise when they released earlier in the year. Other titles, like the DOOM reboot, Overwatch, and Titanfall 2 were also in contention.

Besides Game of the Year, various games were nominated in other categories as well, including Best Narrative, Best VR Game, Best Action Game, and more. Beyond games, voice actors, game development studios, popular gamer personalities, and eSports teams were also recognized at The Game Awards 2016.
