When it comes to Wally West, it’s worth pointing out that there are entire runs of The Flash where he is the hero who is known as the main Scarlet Speedster. He is technically the third person who has taken on the mantle of The Flash and he could one day take on that mantle in the DCEU. However, at the moment, both the television shows and the movies are focusing on Barry Allen being the speedy hero. In fact, Barry Allen is getting his own movie in the near future and Ezra Miller (at least for the moment) is still the one who is taking on the character.
Assuming that Ezra Miller stays in the role of The Flash all the way to the end, it’s a pretty safe bet that at some point, Wally West is going to make an appearance at some point in the movies and that of course means that DC is going to have to hire someone to play that part. The good news is that there are plenty of actors out there that could play the character and do a very good job, no matter what iteration he ends up appearing as on the big screen.
Josh Hutcherson
Hutcherson is probably best known from his appearances in The Hunger Games movies so he’s already shown that he can handle both big-budget films and action movies with equal aplomb. He’s also got a sense of humor that might play well as Wally West, considering that he tends to be the younger and a bit more goofier version of The Flash.
He’s also someone who has some experience in playing something akin to a superhero, even if he’s never actually put on a cape or cowl. He’s spent the last few years lending his voice to the titular character in the Netflix anime series Ultraman. While that series doesn’t have the same kind of popularity that The Flash has in the DCEU, he’s got a pretty long resume at this point in his career and it certainly seems like he’s got the ability to step up to the plate.
Dylan O'Brien
Yet another actor who has the fresh face that would be able to take on the role of a younger superhero in Wally West that could also play someone who is near the same age as Ezra Miller is that’s what the role called for. That is the one big difference it would seem this version of Wally West would need. In the comics, West is quite a bit younger than Barry Allen when he’s first introduced to the point where he’s called Kid Flash for a time. Because Miller plays a relatively young character himself, it feels like West would have to be younger than Allen but not by a great deal. It seems unlikely DC is going to go with someone who is actually a kid for the character. It seems more likely it would be someone like O’Brien who can pull off looking like he’s fresh out of, or still in highschool.
O’brien could pull that look off because he’s certainly done it before as he spent several years on the Teen Wolf series as Stiles Stilinski. In fact, he played that particular character for the entire run of the series so he’s got experience going up against the kind of supernatural plots that would be required in the DCEU. The one downside is that he doesn’t have a ton of experience in blockbuster movies but he was in a decent sized flick recently in Love and Monsters.
Tyler James Williams
There are actually two different versions of Wally West in the comics and thanks to The Flash series, Keinan Lonsdale might have made it so that the character that television and movie fans think of Wally West with a very particular look. It appears that Lonsdale has decided he’s done working as a super hero but there are some other actors that could very easily step into the role and make it their own. One of those is Tyler James Williams.
Williams isn’t particularly young anymore but the 29-year-old actor was introduced to fans as a young kid in the Chris Rock comedy, Everybody Hates Chris and that could help the movies persuade the audience that he’s a bit younger than he really is if the need is there. As a veteran of The Walking Dead series, he’s got some action chops when it comes to action. If there’s one big strike against Williams, it’s that he’s almost exclusively a TV actor who hasn’t been central to a blockbuster movie.
Shameik Moore
Shameik Moore has the kind of pedigree that would seem like a perfect fit for Wally West. He’s someone who has some serious experience carrying a super hero movie. Sure, he only lent his voice, but he understand what it takes to star in one of these pics as he voiced Mile Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and he’s coming back to the role in Across the Spider-verse.
There is of course, a strike against Moore in that he doesn’t have any experience appearing in blockbuster films on screen and it certainly takes a different kind of dedication than it does voice acting, but he has been on television enough that he knows how to inhabit a character in person. He’d certainly be an interesting choice to have both the DCEU and MCU on his resume.
LaKeith Stanfield
If the DCEU decided to go with LaKeith Stanfield, it would seem that they are going to go in an entirely different direction with the character of Wally West. Should they decide to change things up and go with a more grizzled version of the character, it certainly seems as if Standfield could pull it off. And of course, because Wally hasn’t appeared on the big screen, there’s no reason to think they couldn’t change things up.
Stanfield's first big movie on his resume was Get Out. In fact, it’s safe to say that while he wasn’t on screen all that long his appearance was certainly memorable as the young man who tried to warn the main character that something was very amiss. Since then, he has taken on a lead role in Atlanta and appeared in Sorry To Bother You and the Oscar-nominated Judas and the Black Messiah​​​​​​.
