The Flash Complete Series Blu-Ray is finally being released. The news comes months after The CW series concluded DC's Arrowverse.

Running on the CW starting in October of 2014, The Flash was the second show in the CW's interconnected universe based on DC Comics characters. It followed Barry Allen as he navigated the trials and tribulations of crime fighting alongside a small group of trusted allies in earlier seasons, with the stakes growing and the action mounting each new season. To many people, The Flash used the multiverse concept better than the Marvel Cinematic Universe and enjoyed widespread popularity during its run.

It was eventually revealed that The Flash would end with its ninth season on the CW, a close that came with mixed feelings for many fans who were sad to see the show, and by extension, the beating heart of the Arrowverse, go. However, those fans can now find solace in the announcement that the show’s final season will be released on home media in DVD and Blu-Ray format on August 29th. The home release will include bonus content such as deleted scenes, a gag reel, and a featurette titled The Flash: The Saga of the Scarlet Speedster.

Additionally, the final season’s home release has also given rise to the announcement of The Flash: The Complete Series for home media, which collects the entirety of the well-loved series in one package and the expected bonus content. The show enjoyed widespread popularity while it aired and subsequently debuted on streaming. Still, the home media release might experience a success similar to that of The Flash movie, which finally found a victory outside of theatres after a disappointing theatrical run that failed to net a profitable return for the studio.

The show's fans and others who might have heard about it through word of mouth too far into its run to start watching will be excited by the new releases, which accommodates those with no home media and collectors who already acquired the first eight seasons on DVD or Blu-ray. The reception for the home release in contrast to The Flash film's performance in theaters once again brings to mind the refusal of DC Studios to consult Arrowverse creator Marc Guggenheim, a move that he admits made him feel like he’d wasted his time on the shows.

While The Flash home release is good news for fans, there is some skepticism about the staying power of such media, with Shazam director David Sandberg asserting that the best days are over for physical media and the special features that were characteristic of them. Whatever the case, the option is now available for those who prefer a more personal connection to their old shows.

The Flash will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 29, 2023.
