  • Despite bugs and negative reviews, the game reached the top spot on Steam.
  • Developers are working on fixing the ongoing Twitch drops rewards issue.

The First Descendant is giving away free boosts to all players as compensation for the recent launch's technical issues. Nexon Games' free-to-play looter shooter launched on July 2 and quickly rose to the top of the Steam charts within the first few hours of its release. Despite its popularity, more than a few players were dissatisfied with the reliability of The First Descendant's delivery system, with waves of users reporting that they couldn't receive some of their purchased items and rewards due to a bug with the game itself.

While The First Descendant managed to dethrone FromSoftware's Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion pack and take its place as the top game on Steam, the looter shooter's launch has had its own share of issues. Most notably, a good chunk of players complained regarding a bug that caused a delay in the delivery of their purchased Caliber, the game's version of premium currency. Though The First Descendant developers apologized for the problem, players were still quick to express their criticisms on the game's Steam page, flooding the title with negative reviews and dragging its rating down to "Mixed" with a 46 percent user score.

Fortunately, The First Descendant developers previously posted an update that confirmed the bug has since been resolved, and players were free to buy and spend their Caliber without delay. Now, in addition to the fixes, all players who log into the game until July 7 can claim several boosts to kickstart their grinding. The packaged items' effects will notably last for three days upon claiming and will grant the user a 30 percent increase in all gold, kyper shards, Descendant experience, and weapon experience gained. Players will also receive two matte red paint items, which can be used to color certain costumes.

The First Descendant Devs Are Working On Twitch Drops Fixes

Though the problem with Caliber has been resolved, there have been reports that some players have yet to receive their Twitch drops rewards even after the fixes. The developers assured fans that they were contacting Twitch to help formulate a possible solution. While a specific timeline for a fix was not given, they additionally promised they would keep the fans updated with another notice when the issue is finally laid to rest.

The launch of Nexon Games' looter shooter was flawed but the game has still drawn quite an audience. The First Descendant amassed a massive player count in the hours following its launch, with an all-time peak of 229,257 concurrent players. However, only time will tell if The First Descendant will manage to keep its player base, especially when considering that the online looter-shooter genre has several other popular alternatives.
