The upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter, The Finals, has successfully concluded its hugely successful open beta as 7.5 million players participated in the testing of the game. The title’s open beta started on October 26 and was supposed to last for 10 days, until November 5. In spite of that, due to its immense popularity, the beta ended one day later. In fact, so many gamers joined the open beta of The Finals that the developers had to implement a login queue to be able to manage the massive influx of players, without straining their servers.
The Finals is a forthcoming team-based multiplayer shooting game developed by Embark Studios, with a huge emphasis on destructible environments. Players have the option to choose from three distinct character classes for their Contestants, each offering unique advantages and disadvantages: the Light build which focuses on quickness and mobility, the Medium build with an emphasis on balance and versatility, and the tank-like Heavy build that boasts lots of health points and immense damage-dealing capabilities. Embark Studios recently took to Twitter in order to celebrate the end of the successful open beta test of The Finals, thanking the 7.5 million contestants who helped identify bugs and balance issues in the game. Unfortunately, during its open beta, The Finals suffered from some serious issues on Xbox and PlayStation, however, Embark Studios rolled out a fix for those problems almost immediately. Hopefully, players were able to pinpoint the most critical bugs during this testing phase to ensure a smooth launch in the future.
The game has not been without its share of controversy, such as the criticism directed at the developers of The Finals for their use of AI-generated voices alongside real voice actors. Embark Studios responded to the critics by clarifying that their goal is not to replace voice actors but rather to utilize AI technology to expedite the in-game implementation of voiceovers.
