The comedy anime series The Devil is a Part-Timer!! has been licensed for a sequel that will air this summer, starting in July. The announcement came last Wednesday via Muse Asia's official Facebook page. This new season will be a sequel to the season that first aired last summer, and the third part of the overall franchise.

The franchise for The Devil is a Part-Timer! can be a bit confusing if you do not notice a tiny difference in the name. The first part of the anime franchise, The Devil is a Part-Timer! - with one exclamation point, notice, as this is important - first aired back in 2013 to extremely positive reviews. Then, after just 13 episodes, there was nothing else new for the anime franchise until 2022.

Then, in July 2022, a new series in the same franchise aired called The Devil is a Part-Timer!! - this time, with two exclamation points. The sequel that has been announced by Muse Asia for this summer will be a sequel to this second series from 2022, not the series from 2013. All three, though, are part of the same overall franchise, and follow the same characters. The difference is that they are produced by different studios, and under different directors, based on different manga.

The story of The Devil is a Part-Timer!! follows the demon lord Satan on his journey to conquer the land of Ente Isla, when he is foiled by the hero Emilia. He is forced to retreat through a magic gateway that transports him to modern-day Tokyo, where he does not have any of his powers. In order to survive and find a way back to Ente Isla, he takes on a fake persona and a job at MgRonald's. While working there, he encounters many other characters from Ente Isla who also have a new look and persona in the modern world.

Sadao Maou from The Devil is a Part Timer anime

The Devil is a Part-Timer!! is based on the second manga series that came from the original light novels, whereas the first season was adapted from the first manga series. The new season is being produced by Studio 3Hz (Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online), and directed by Daisuke Tsukushi, who has directed episodes of Black Butler, Fairy Tale, and My Hero Academia. The opening song will be performed by Minami Kuribayashi, titled "WITH." She also sang the opening song for the previous season, "ZERO!!"

The second series of The Devil is a Part-Timer!! never got the same hype as the first season did back in 2013, but it was still a well-received anime when it streamed on Disney+. Hopefully, this new sequel will get the anime some more traffic, especially for director Daisuke Tsukushi as this is the first series he has been the primary director of. It is a light-hearted comedy with relatable characters and an original concept, so it's no surprise that many people enjoy it.

The Devil is a Part-Timer!!'s sequel series will air sometime in July 2023.
