The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is unique in the series for a number of reasons. One of the biggest of these in this horror co-op video game is that the Curator's Cut is massively different from the Theatrical Cut. Many of the scenes are played from other characters' perspectives, so in order to see the whole story, players will need to keep everyone alive for as long as possible. Since the changes mean that there are whole new ways of solving puzzles, players may be wondering about the best ways to keep everyone alive in the Curator's Cut.
Saving Erin in Blackout
In order to save Erin from The Devil in Me's H.H. Holmes-inspired serial killer, players will need to be quick on their feet. After talking with Erin through the door, run to grab the candleholder before Jamie can. If Jamie gets to it first, Erin will be dead before they open the door.
Save Erin in Party
If players did not save Erin in Blackout, they will not get to play through this Curator's Cut-exclusive level called Party. This chapter has a couple of evidence pieces that can't be found anywhere else, including a The Devil in Me Obol location, so make sure to save Erin when she is locked in the closet. In order to save her here, make sure to follow the killer's instructions and tell her to hide.
How to Save Charlie in Incinerator
After solving the wine room puzzle in time, players will have to watch Charlie burn in the Incinerator chapter of The Devil in Me. In order to save him, Mark will need to hold the fire lever for as long as possible. Charlie will die if players don't hold onto the lever long enough or if they take too long to solve the wine room puzzle. The video below has both the solution to the wine puzzle and how long to hold the lever to save Charlie.
How to Save Erin and Kate in Breathless
In this version of Breathless, players will only have one choice. The Devil in Me character Erin will have to pick one of these options:
- Say Nothing
- The Hopeless option "He'll kill us all."
- The Demanding option "Help me!"
Choose the Demanding option "Help me!" here to save Kate and Erin. This will make sure Erin lives long enough for Jamie to kiss her again in The Devil in Me.
Save Charlie in Waste Disposal
If players completed the Theatrical Cut of The Devil in Me and saved everyone, they will know how to get him out of here alive. Hop into the garbage disposal belt, then succeed at all the QTEs. Choose to Hide instead of Turning Back; then, there will be a few more QTEs. If players pass all of these trials, Charlie will survive without being crushed.
How to Save Jamie in Director's Suite
In the Theatrical Cut of The Devil in Me, players had to go through the 3rd floor during Director's Suite as Jamie. This time, they will need to play as Kate. In order to save Jamie, Kate will need to time closing the walls at the correct times to prevent Jamie's horrible death. Close the first door after Jamie and the killer pass through and close the second door after Jamie hits the threshold of the second. Here's a video of the timing.
Save Both Jamie and Kate in Crushed
In order to save both Kate and Jamie from being crushed in this choose-your-own-adventure video game, players have to make sure that the person that gets crushed is the one with the screwdriver. If Kate has the screwdriver, she can choose to say nothing or choose the Somber option. If Jamie has the screwdriver, it's best to have Kate beg her not to die by choosing the right-hand option: Afraid, "I don't want to die." The best way to make sure this scene goes well is to make sure that Jamie has the screwdriver and to choose the Afraid option. This will help the relationship between Jamie and Kate.
How to Save Everyone in The Devil in Me Until the Lighthouse
The Curator's Cut and the Theatrical Cut are identical from this point on, so players will need to choose the same things they did in the original version to keep everyone alive. While passing all QTEs is essential, players will also need to make the right choices. These are:
- In Chase: When Kate and Jamie are on the roof of the horror hotel, and the killer gets a hold of Jamie, Kate will have the option to run or to save Jamie. Choose to save Jamie.
- In Maze: players can either choose to Run or to Barricade the Door after getting out of the gardens. Players will survive either way, but if they choose to barricade, make sure to choose the Run rather than Go Upstairs.
- In Homestead: Choose the Hide option in the farmhouse with Kate, Jamie, and the dog.
- In Homestead: When given the option as Jamie, do not kill The Devil in Me dog Connie; just let the QTE with the broken bottle pass without doing anything.
Save Mark in Lighthouse
In the chapter Lighthouse in this survival horror game, when Mark is given the option to either Run or Grab the Axe, make sure to choose to Grab the Axe.
Grab the Gun in Lake
Erin will yell for someone to grab the cop's gun as Du'Met kills the officer. Choose to grab the gun instead of hiding, and then make sure to be ready for a QTE that has to be passed.
How to Save Everyone in Lake
This section is a little different from the Theatrical Cut, so make sure to follow these closely, After grabbing the gun, when everyone is on the boat, make sure to:
- Have Jamie Jump off of the boat.
- Make Kate Attack the killer.
- Pass Kate's QTE to get back on the boat.
- Before hitting the killer, make sure to equip Kate's Amethyst Crystal using the inventory system. Then Hit the killer.
