Shortly after the disastrous launch of The Day Before, the moderators of the game's official Discord server have been forced to shut down the server in the face of overwhelming complaints, bug reports, and criticism from players. After generating substantial hype in the lead-up to its release, The Day Before has very quickly destroyed any goodwill it had previously acquired in the wake of its catastrophic launch.

First announced back in 2021, The Day Before was presented in trailers and other advertising as an open-world MMO set in a zombie apocalypse. Fans were very excited by the prospect of an MMO with survival horror elements, as the trailers seemed to suggest this upcoming title would be. However, as soon as the game launched in early access on December 7, players quickly discovered that The Day Before was not an open world MMO at all, but rather an extraction shooter. On top of this apparent deception, players were further outraged to find the game riddled with bugs, server lag, and other glaring issues.

The Day Before Launches to Overwhelmingly Negative Reviews on Steam

Fans are unhappy with Fntastic’s The Day Before, criticizing the studio for false advertising and accusing the multiplayer shooter of being a 'scam.'

Angry fans flooded the official The Day Before Discord server following the catastrophic launch, overwhelming the server's moderators with bug reports, complaints, and angry comments. Developer Fntastic was seemingly prepared for some degree of backlash, having released a statement asserting that The Day Before was not a scam prior to the game's release, but the Discord mod team was still unable to deal with the deluge of negative feedback. In a matter of hours, moderators completely locked down the server, claiming in a statement that the move was necessary "to let things calm down due to the overwhelming toxicity that we currently cannot manage effectively.”

The Day Before Mod Statement

The mod statement, captured by PCGamesN, promised that "a patch is in the works" to address major issues and fix some of the most glaring bugs, but gave no timeline for the release of such an update. Seemingly recognizing that the server shutdown left players unable to report the countless bugs being discovered in The Day Before, the moderator issuing the statement made a followup post encouraging players with a bug report to "write it down somewhere on your PC or in your DM" until the Discord server is reopened. Much like with the promised patch, no timeline was given for the reopening of the server.

The closure of the game's Discord server is the latest in a series of disasters plaguing the launch of what had previously been a hotly anticipated game. Prior to its release, The Day Before was one of the most-wanted games on Steam, even in spite of the controversies that had plagued its development. All of that hype has since turned to outrage, and it is unclear how many players will stick with the game long enough for its first patch to be released.
