Developer Supermassive Games revealed the exclusive in-game items players get when pre-ordering the upcoming virtual reality horror game The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. The VR rail shooter launches on March 16 as a PS VR2 exclusive.

Supermassive began The Dark Pictures Anthology with Man of Medan in 2019. Season 1 continued with Little Hope in 2020, House of Ashes in 2021, and The Devil in Me in 2022. A second season is also on the way, with The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 in development. However, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR is a first-person on-rails shooter rather than an interactive drama like the preceding games, making it a successor to the 2016 PS4 VR game Until Dawn: Blood Rush.

Supermassive Games calls The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR's pre-order content the Inferno Pack. It features two exclusive weapon skins in the form of the Special Edition Gold Gun and Premium Demon Gun. The former is gold-plated with a flame on the front of the barrel. Switchback VR's Demon Gun features a similar pattern, but is white with multiple creepy eyes peering out from the slide. The Inferno Pack also includes the Premium Skull and Bones cart, which players can decorate with an exclusive hovering Skull Bobble Head. The Dark Pictures fans can pre-order SwitchbackVR now for $39.99.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback pre-order bonus

Much like Until Dawn: Blood Rush, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR takes the phrase rail shooter unusually literally, taking place on a literal supernatural roller coaster. Supermassive's VR shooter features threats from the first season of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Players will battle Man of Medan's undead sailors, Little Hope's demonic spirits, House of Ashes' ancient alien vampires, and The Devil in Me's sadistic serial killer. Each track features multiple paths guaranteeing that no two rides will be exactly the same. Switchback VR is also still a Dark Pictures game at heart, meaning that it will feature different endings based on the players' decisions.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR being a PlayStation 5 exclusive also means that it can take advantage of the special features of the PlayStation VR2. Namely, Switchback VR utilizes the PS VR2's eye-tracking feature to adjust enemy behavior. In addition, the game also takes advantage of the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in the controllers and headset. Players will be able to experience the wild ride for themselves when The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR launches in one month.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR releases for PS VR2 on March 16.
