Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy ended over a decade ago, but many fans still remember it as some of the best Batman films to have been made. These fans can now celebrate the return of Christian Bale's Batman on the big screen, as the trilogy is returning to mark the upcoming Batman Day in September. All three classics will be played on select screens in the US, brought to life by Showcase Cinemas.

The Dark Knight trilogy began in 2005 with Batman Begins when Bale donned the cape for the first time. He is still praised by many for his portrayal of Batman and often compared with the iteration of the character in the DC Extended Universe played by Ben Affleck.

Fans can now celebrate Batman Day and watch Bale's performance as the Caped Crusader on the big screen again. In an official announcement on Twitter, Showcase Cinemas revealed that the Dark Knight trilogy will play on select screens for one day only on September 16. The trilogy includes 2005’s Batman Begins, 2008’s The Dark Knight, and 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. Participating screens will seemingly have the films playing in consecutive time slots, allowing Batman fans to have a movie marathon.

Batman Day is an annual celebration to commemorate the iconic character, which takes place on the third Saturday of September. Every year, there are announcements related to Batman films, and this year’s main highlight seems to be the Dark Knight trilogy. For the longest time, The Dark Knight was Warner Bros.' highest-grossing film at the domestic box office. However, the Oscar-winning film was recently dethroned by Greta Gerwig's Barbie. The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises are still on Warner Bros.' list of top 10 highest-grossing films globally.

Nolan's depiction of the Caped Crusader was unique. He reintroduced fans to the hero in Batman Begins and converted Gotham into a dark, bleak city. Bale's performance as the hero was commended by fans and critics, especially for including emotional complexity in the character. However, some fans did complain about Bale's voice and how it didn’t quite match up to the character they had gotten used to seeing. When The Dark Knight was released, fans couldn’t stop praising Heath Ledger for his portrayal as Joker, for which he won a posthumous Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.

The Dark Knight trilogy will play in select theaters on September 16, 2023.
