Ubisoft's aging open-world racer The Crew 2 will be getting a further year of support with new content almost 4 years after its initial release way back in June 2018. Motorflix, the in-game production company, will receive new content in The Crew 2 from July 2022.

Ubisoft and Ivory tower announced the news via a video on YouTube that the game will receive 60fps support on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. After releasing 2 seasons, 53 vehicles, 32 live Summits, and many new events over the course of its lifetime, Ubisoft has said that the first installments of its Year 5 content will go live on March 16.

The Crew 2 Year 5 content will contain three unique seasons of content scheduled to begin in July 2022, including both free and premium content starting with the American Legends expansion. Ubisoft has been working on bringing enhanced visuals to next-generation consoles and is confident it can deliver 60fps to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S by their July target. Alongside graphical improvements, Ubisoft says it also hopes to deliver improvements to the game's handling model and the skybox, which will create more dramatic sunsets and weather effects.

When the update is released from its current testing phase and downloaded, players on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S that play The Crew 2 via backwards compatibility should notice more responsive gameplay and improved performance. Despite there not being any solid information regarding what content will be added in Year 5, studious players may have noticed what appears to be the blueprints for a Porsche 550 Spyder on the artwork for the new American Legends expansion.

Continuing and returning players of The Crew 2 will be pleased to hear that Ubisoft is continuing to support the game despite its age and that it has a whole year of updates to roll out. In a market that lacks many solid arcade racing titles, it is refreshing to see developers support such a title so long after its initial launch and providing fans with considerable value for their money.

Many fans may have been hoping for an announcement regarding The Crew 3 this year, but with this announcement of continued support for The Crew 2, it would seem unlikely that Ubisoft intends to say anything about the next installment in the franchise.

The Crew 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
