Crytek has announced that its Oculus VR title The Climb 2 is receiving a free batch of additional content. Called the Freestyle Expansion Pack, the new DLC will includes several levels, modes, and more.
This sequel to the popular 2016 virtual reality extreme sports title released just over a month ago, catching many fans of the series by surprise. In both games the player's objective is to free solo climb, using handholds on walls and surfaces to reach the top of each stage that is presented.
The announcement of the Freestyle Expansion Pack comes as part of the first-ever Oculus Gaming Showcase yesterday. It will consist of six new levels, all without the encumbrance of checkpoints. Players will be able to tackle this set of levels on either "casual" or "professional" mode, and according to the studio, will be rewarded for managing to complete the levels without the use of chalk. Crytek is releasing the DLC in two parts, bringing 12 levels to The Climb 2 in total. The studio hasn’t said when the second half is due, but players will probably be busy enough with the newly announced “rhythm-based climbing” mode that involves disappearing grips, requiring players to move to the beat of the background music to succeed.
While The Climb series is a popular VR franchise, developer Crytek is known more commonly as the team behind franchises like Far Cry and Crysis. While fans of the latter may already be aware of the upcoming Crysis Remastered port for next-gen consoles, footage of a Crysis battle royale title has recently leaked online. Given how diehard a fanbase the series has, a potential battle royale could be the biggest shake-up the genre has seen in years.
The Climb 2 is available now for Oculus devices.
