The Boys' highly anticipated spinoff series Gen V, has received a significant update about when it will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

The Boys is a sadistic look at superheroes and has become one of Prime's most successful streaming series. The series already expanded with a non-canon animated anthology series called The Boys Presents: Diabolical. A spinoff was announced in 2020 but wasn’t named Gen V until July 2022. In December, a Gen V trailer was finally released, but a release date was not announced.

The Twitter account for Prime Video showed off its current and upcoming slate of projects with a short video. The Gen V Twitter account replied with a screenshot from the video that says, “New Series Gen V September.” Additionally, the Twitter bio for Gen V says, “enrolling this September.” An exact date has not been confirmed, but with September being about two months away, fans can expect a specific date announcement soon.

A couple of weeks ago, showrunner Erik Kripke announced The Boys season 4 will not be released until after the writers’ strike is resolved, even though they had finished filming. Some fans were worried that this might also affect the release of Gen V. Although Kripke is heavily involved, the spinoff does have different showrunners and will release despite the writers’ strike.

However, Gen V will still be indirectly affected by the actors’ strike. Prime Video does not need the actors for any more filming related to the series, but due to the strike, actors are asked not to do any promotion for their projects. This includes appearances at the premier and San Diego Comic-Con. Additionally, the actors can’t do interviews or film any promotional videos. This may partially be why the exact date has not been announced, as they hope that the actors’ strike will be resolved quickly so they can promote the series.

Gen V will take place at Godolkin University, also known as God U, a school for supes run by Vought International. The students in the series will compete for the best contracts in the best cities, and the show will have some aspects of The Hunger Games. The series creators have said that it will be a raunchy satire just like The Boys, but the young age of the characters should make some of the scenes even more shocking than what fans have seen in The Boys.

Gen V is scheduled to premiere in September 2023 on Amazon Prime Video.
