The Boys season 4 release date won't be announced soon despite the filming wrapping earlier in 2023.

The Boys' first three seasons have been a success for Amazon Prime; fans anxiously wait for the next season and its spinoff series. The writers' strike has halted production on numerous films and TV shows like Daredevil: Born Again and Thunderbolts. With the possibility of an actors' strike coming up, some productions that were able to continue during the WGA strike have been rushing to finish before their project gets halted.

The Boys series creator and showrunner Erik Kripke gave an update for season 4 on his Twitter. Kripke clarified that The Boys' season 4 release date depends on when the writers' strike ends. In the tweet, Kripke says, “Tell the studios to make a fair deal!” The Boys is one of Amazon's most successful series, and Kripke is ensuring the studio won’t get it until the WGA receives a fair deal. Additionally, his tweet included some unrelated art of The Deep's cereal, Choctopus Puffs.

One Twitter user asked Kripke why The Boys season 4 couldn’t drop until the end of the writers’ strike if the production had already wrapped filming. “There's a good amount of dialogue we write in post that the actors come back to record,” Kripke said. “We'll also edit dialogue together in different ways to 'rewrite' it. Writing at every stage of the process.” What constitutes writing has been a matter of contention between the WGA and the studios. The WGA's stance is that there are no non-writing elements when it comes to being a showrunner, and Kripke seems to agree.

Kripke has supported the writers and the WGA during the strike. Last week he helped orchestrate a The Boys picket line outside of Amazon Studios in Culver City. Kripke also seems to compare the studios to Vought, the villainous corporation of The Boys series. In his tweet last week, Kripke said, “Studios: don’t be Vought,” and shared two images. The first image is art from the show of Black Noir helping Vought with some union busting. The second image promotes the picket line and reads, “The Boys picket Vought Studios,” with Vought Studios crossed out and replaced with Amazon.

The writers' strike is currently in its 9th week and does not seem to be nearing the end anytime soon. Discussions about a deal between the studios and the actors are ongoing, but an actors’ strike may be likely. If this continues, it may be a while before fans get The Boys season 4 or its Gen V spinoff series.

The Boys seasons 1-3 are now available on Amazon Prime Video.
