Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for The Boys season 3, and it features new and returning cast members and a whole lot of blood and guts.

The new trailer from Amazon Prime for The Boys season 3 opens with series antagonist Homelander (Antony Starr) as he does a variety of stereotypical Hollywood press junket interviews. He repeatedly says that he "fell in love with the wrong woman," referring to his fellow superhero Stormfront (Aya Cash), who was brutally maimed at the end of last season after being publicly outed as a Nazi. Then, the voice of fellow superhero Starlight (Erin Moriarity) explains that something has changed in Homelander and that he's losing his mind as he milks a cow and strokes a bloodstained bed.

The Boys season 3 trailer then shifts focus to anti-superhero vigilante Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), who has maintained contact with Homelander's son and former CIA director Grace Mallory (Laila Robbins). She claims he's been on the "straight and arrow" since the events of last season, and that he's even taking orders from his one-time protégé Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), who now works in the department of superhuman affairs. As the trailer shifts into a series of montages, Vought CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) explains one of the overarching themes of the series: that real power doesn't come from superpowers but from the ability to bend the world to your will. We also see that Hugh's government job seems like it might be short-lived, as he explains that he thought he could fight Vought the right way, but it's all rigged. The rest of the trailer features The Boys' trademark brutal violence and dark humor.

The trailer for The Boys season 3 also features a new character named Soldier Boy, who's played by actor Jensen Ackles, one of the two series leads from the hit CW show Supernatural. While Ackles' appearance in the trailer is brief, it does give viewers an idea of what's in store for this season. The character of Soldier Boy is clearly a riff on Marvel's Captain America, even brandishing a shield similar to the one used by Steve Rogers. However, with The Boys' cynical tone and adult content, the character may have more in common with DC Comics Peacemaker, who was brought to life by pro wrestler-turned-actor John Cena in the R-rated 2021 film The Suicide Squad, and then again on his very own HBO Max series.

Another interesting reveal in The Boys season 3 trailer is Butcher gaining superpowers. It's explained in the trailer that the dosage he's taking allows him to gain superpowers for 24-hours, but as Butcher's fellow vigilante Mother's Milk (played by Laz Alonso) explains, the reason they do what they do is that they believe no one should have that much power. It's easy to imagine that a character as violent and unpredictable as Butcher will abuse this power, but fans will have to wait and see when the new season arrives next month.

The Boys season 3 will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd, 2022.
