Amazon’s The Boys will be entering season 3 with three brand-new characters to join the superhero hunting team. Previously, The Boys had also announced that Supernatural's Jensen Ackles would be joining the cast and taking on the role of Soldier Boy - a Captain America-inspired hero.

Now, Amazon is bringing forth even more new energy to fans by unveiling the three superheroes' names and the actors who have been cast to play the roles. Up first is actor Miles Gaston Villanueva, best known for his performance in Law and Order: True Crime, who has been cast as the superhero “Supersonic.” So far, Amazon only seems to be revealing the names of the new characters and the respective actors who will be embodying them. Fans can use context clues to assume that Supersonic may possess super-speed powers, granting him the ability to move at the speed of light.

Rumors have also been circling the internet surrounding Supersonic, who fans suspect may be an ex-boyfriend of Starlight. Actor Sean Patrick Flanery has been cast as the superhero, Gunpowder. With context clues again, fans have assumptions that Flanery’s powers will involve lots of ammunition and weapons of sorcery. Although claims have been made that the three new superheroes are completely separate from the comics, Gunpowder may be a slight exception. Gunpowder was in fact a character who was derived from the original The Boys comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The Boys

Gunpowder was written and introduced as a member of the young supes towards the very beginning. Yet, since time has passed and Flannery is well past his younger years, major adjustments and tweaks will have to be made as a result. Gunpowder may not even be recognizable when he appears on season 3. His personality, goals, and physicality will be entirely different, permitting him the newcomer status. Last but not least is actor Nick Wechsler, who will be playing the superhero named Blue Hawk.

Blue Hawk seems to be the most unknown and mysterious hero out of the three. His name could suggest that he will mimic other bird-inspired supes such as the Falcon. All fans can drum up is that he will most likely have wings and the ability to fly high above danger. So many superheroes are symbolic and represent the spirit of a bird that it's hard to keep track of them all, but The Boys will hopefully bring forth originality with the character of Blue Hawk. Amazon has given fans a lot of spoilers as to what to expect from season 3, yet the premiere date has still not been released.

The Boys is based on the comics by Ennis and Robertson, so the plot and characters so far have been greatly informed by the text itself. The exciting part, aside from getting 3 new characters to meet, is that these superheroes are completely separate from the comics. The fact that these three characters are fresh creations that haven’t been talked about or seen before gives the series endless possibilities and all the more freedom for season three.

The Boys seasons 1-2 are now available on Amazon Prime Video.
