In 2019, MGM introduced audiences to a new incarnation of The Addams Family with its animated feature-length adaption of the cartoons created by Charles Addams. Now, the studio has announced a sequel is scheduled to be released in theaters next fall and teased the debut of its first teaser. Yes, it teased a teaser. That's how things are done now.

Addams' cartoons about the famously spooky family debuted in the pages of The New Yorker as a satirical take the ideal 20th-century American family unit. The single-strip comics centered on the eponymous family of aristocrats as they engaged in ghastly activities while being blissfully unaware of the fear they instilled in everyone around them. Since then, The Addams Family stories have been adapted for television, film, and even a broadway musical.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, MGM started planning a sequel to its animated Addams Family film just days after the first entry earned $30.3 million over its opening weekend. Directors Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon will return to helm the sequel, which was initially slated for a theatrical release on October 22, 2021. However, new key art unveiled by MGM indicates The Addams Family 2 may debut closer to Halloween 2021 and promises audiences will meet the title family again soon. Included with the announcement was a new poster featuring Wednesday Addams as she unenthusiastically heralds the sequel with her signature dry wit.

MGM's animated The Addams Family will see the return of Oscar Isaac as Gomez Addams, Charlize Theron as Morticia Addams, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday Addams, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley Addams, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, and Bette Midler as Grandmama. The story of the first film centered on the Addams family's conflict with a TV personality named Margaux Needler, who views the eccentric family as a disturbance to her vision of the perfect neighborhood and therefore a threat to her efforts dream to sell every home in the area. Directors Tiernan and Conrad have already indicated the sequel will explore new territory now that this new version of The Addams Family has been established.

Perhaps the most famous incarnation of The Addams Family is the 1964 live-action sitcom in which the patriarch and matriarch of the family were portrayed by John Astin and Carolyn Jones. The comedy also introduced the famous Addams Family theme song composed and sung by Vic Mizzy.

However, younger moviegoers may be most familiar with the live-action Addams Family film series from the '90s. This version of the family featured Anjelica Huston as Morticia and Raul Julia as Gomez, not long before he passed away in 1994.

The Addams Family will be released in theaters in October 2021.
