It has been nearly 50 years since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre first introduced Leatherface and his sinister acts. After a number of sequels and various other adaptations, the newest version set to hit Netflix has revealed its first trailer.

The latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre film will arrive courtesy of Legendary Pictures and is in the hands of some of modern horror's most well-known contributors. Fede Álvarez, director of Evil Dead, Don't Breathe, and The Girl in the Spider's Web will produce the film, and David Blue Garcia will direct.

The trailer for Netflix's Texas Chainsaw Massacre immediately sets the stage for Leatherface's return. A young woman crashes her car in a deserted field, giving Leatherface an opportunity to strike. The trailer then shifts to the focal setting of the film: the small, abandoned town of Harlow. A group of young opportunists arrives with the hopes of reviving the Texas town, but they fail to realize they are not as alone as they think. As the young hopefuls explore the town, they uncover a few characters from previous the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, including Leatherface himself. It ends with a rather memorable scene where Leatherface puts his chainsaw to work on a bus full of patrons.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer does feature a few familiar characters, but the faces behind them have changed. Leatherface was originally played by Gunnar Hansen, who passed away in 2015. The iconic horror villain will be portrayed by Mark Burnham in the Netflix film. Texas Chainsaw Massacre also features the return of Sally Hardesty, who was originally played by Marilyn Burns. Burns' character was the only surviving member of the original Leatherface massacre, but she passed away in 2014. The role has been recast and Olwen Fouéré will play Hardesty.

John Larroquette has lent his voice to the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. He previously narrated the original film in 1974 and the Marcus Nispel remake in 2003. Other members of the cast include Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, Sarah Yarkin, Nell Hudson, Sam Douglas, Moe Dunford, and Alice Krige.

The newest adaptation of Texas Chainsaw Massacre appears to follow in a manner similar to the Halloween and Scream franchises. Halloween, which is set to come to a close with its final film, titled Halloween Ends, features the same killer virtually hunting the same victim. Michael Myers is much older and while Leatherface has been recast for this film, he will seem to have aged considerably since the original film. While Scream has changed its killer, the recent revival of the franchise has been received relatively well with a mix of the original cast and a set of fresh faces. If Texas Chainsaw Massacre manages to receive a similar response, there may be many more installments of the iconic horror franchise to come.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre arrives on Netflix on February 18, 2022.
