The CEO of Gun, the publisher of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game, recently spoke about why the upcoming survival horror title will primarily focus on only the first movie in the franchise. There is also a mention of what else can be done to potentially expand to other Texas Chain Saw Massacre films. Many may be excited to see Gun Interactive return to the horror game world after the unfortunate killing of the Friday the 13th servers. It seems as though Gun, alongside developer Sumo, is going to bring a similar level of care and attention to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, but unlike Friday the 13th, the game won't be spanning the whole series. Now fans have a reason as to why.RELATED:Xbox Game Pass Confirms Day One Horror Game for August 2023The tweet comes from CEO Wes Keltner who addresses the lack of characters from later Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. Currently, the developers only have the rights to the first movie, which also explains the game's name having the separation between "chain" and "saw" that is absent in most later entries. Getting the rights to a single movie is much simpler than every movie in a franchise that has spanned nearly half a century and multiple film studios. As Keltner puts it, "Licensing in general is usually a total mess." Something Gun is all too familiar with after the tragedy of Friday the 13th.

Before fanatics of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series get too distraught, however, Keltner does tease the idea in a subsequent tweet that getting the license for the various sequels and reboots isn't completely out of the question. He writes, "Get hyped for what's there. Tell everyone you know. Post on social, retweet, and discuss the game. In my experience Hollywood reacts to buzz, not demands." Recent trailers for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre definitely give reasons to be hyped.

The experiences of those who have been able to test the game along with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre gameplay footage released so far have given many early positive remarks. It seems as though it will build upon the loop familiar to fans of Dead by Daylight or Evil Dead of survivors attempting to escape player-controlled evils. Having the teams be 3v4 seems like a great move that will reduce some of the problems other games have where too many attempt to claim the one killer slot available in each match.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 18th.
