Developer Gun Interactive has applied a new patch to its asymmetrical horror game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to start off the month of September, introducing several bug fixes and feature changes. This patch is the latest update to arrive for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre since the game's highly successful launch back in August.

Based on the iconic horror movie franchise of the same name, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a 3v4 online multiplayer game that offers an asymmetrical survival horror experience similar to the genre-defining Dead by Daylight, although the two titles differ in many key respects. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre reached over 1 million players within a day of its release, and it has been generally well received by critics, although several technical issues were reported by fans and critics alike after the game launched.

The development team at Gun Interactive has been working consistently to fix these issues and improve the game, and those efforts have continued with the latest patch. The studio's Brand Strategy Lead posted the official patch notes on Reddit a day before the update went live, outlining the fixes and changes to be introduced. Four separate bug fixes were highlighted in the notes, including an issue that had been interfering with party voice chat in game lobbies. This is an important fix, given the importance of party member communication in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Aside from the bug fixes, the patch notes also noted four significant changes introduced by the patch, including the addition of key rebinding options for PC players, and a change allowing lobbies to launch with only six players. Perhaps most notably, the patch notes announce a major change to crossplay in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, namely that players on PC will no longer be able to play with those on consoles. The notes stress that this separation between PC and console is only temporary, to be carried out "while we continue to improve our anti-cheat tools and resources."

Players will no doubt be happy to hear about the bug fixes that this patch introduces, and those who own the game on PC are sure to welcome the introduction of key rebinding options, but cutting off access to crossplay for PC players could disappoint many. Even so, this change is promised to be temporary, and is unlikely to deter dedicated fans who value the unique gameplay experience of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
