Having the highest toughness of all victims in Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Leland brings an athletic build and a rocking 70s hairstyle to the game. Besides looking suave while making his escape (or getting murdered) these characteristics give Leland an advantage in combat situations. While typically victims will want to avoid interactions with the Family at all costs, there will be many times when altercations are unavoidable, and it's in these moments where Leland shines.

Due to his low proficiency and stealth scores, Leland falls into a more niche, support-like role, as his escaping capabilities are significantly lower than other victims. Where he falls short in his escape tactics, Leland excels at opening crawlspaces, turning off generators, and incapacitating Family, buying teammates crucial time to pick a lock and progress the escape forward.

Skill Tree

TCM - leland - skill tree-1

When it comes to building Leland's skill tree in Texas Chain Saw Massacre, players will want to focus on the branch that runs slightly left of the center of the tree. Start by heading left to the No Sell perk, then take a right at the second split to unlock Choose Fight. Take another right at the next split, unlocking Full Hearts, followed by a quick left for Radar Detector. At the last split, players will want to go right to unlock Agitator.

TCM - leland - perks

While Leland does receive several perks that can directly benefit his close encounter or sneak attack opportunities, Leland gets the best benefit out of selecting perks that can benefit the whole team. Agitator gives Leland a huge bonus towards incapacitating Grandpa, dropping Family bond by 4 levels once the perk is maxed. This is quintessential in matches with skilled Family players that can manage hunting players and feeding Grandpa efficiently - if Grandpa reaches max level he will be able to detect victims even when they are not moving, essentially leading to a game over state for the victims.

Radar Detector is an excellent perk for Leland, especially when playing in a party that has good communication. While most victims can access Radar Detector, it fits best on Leland as he will typically be the lookout for the lock picking proficient victims. This perk gives a brief highlight of the Family member locations and Leland can communicate to teammates whether to press forward or hide based on this insight.

For the last perk, players should take some sort of defensive bonus. No Sell is one of the strongest options when leaning into the support play style, significantly reducing the damage of the first few attacks received. This provides Leland the opportunity to create distractions for the Family, buying time for teammates to unlock crucial doors and gates at a minimized health cost.

Attributes

+27 Stealth

While he is the only victim set up with minor combat capabilities, the ultimate goal for victims is to escape the property. By spending all attribute points on stealth Leland unlocks the ability to hide and sneak as well as the other victims, while maintaining his natural strength. Additionally, since Leland players should let their teammates handle any locks, points spent on proficiency are ultimately wasted, while the huge spike in stealth can allow Leland to break free from restraints and search the map with ease, due to the significantly diminished noise meter.

Ability Modifiers

TCM - leland - ability modifiers

Level 1: Increased Stun Duration

Level 2: Restore Stamina

Level 3: Quicker Recharge

Starting with Increased Stun Duration puts Leland on the board with a massive ten-second stun - while ineffective on Leatherface the Life Saver ability can incapacitate Family to create an opening for escape or buy time to pick a lock or jump down a well. Next go for Restore Stamina, opening the path to Quicker Recharge at level 3. This is the ultimate prize for Life Saver, as it drops the ability cooldown to just over 2 minutes, giving Leland at least 3 uses of the ability in an average game. As the only victim who has the ability to quickly stun an enemy and not have to rely on a clever stealth attack, players will want as much access to this ability as possible.

Texas Chain Saw Massacre is available now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
