The Labor of Love update for Terraria brings many changes to the game, but a certain delight that's captivated its players is the newly reworked Terra Blade. Though Terraria was at the top of the Steam review charts, and its post-launch support was slated to conclude with Journey's End, the developers started thinking about all the little bits of content that never got implemented, as well as the quality of life features that the community clamored for over the years.

The resulting effort ended up being Patch 1.4.4, bringing with it several weapon changes across the board for (arguably) Terraria's most underrated build: melee. Labor of Love brought that missing spark to melee builds by making sizable improvements over many of its weapons, such as Dark Lance – but none have quite won the hearts of the playerbase the way Terra Blade has.

A Terraria player by the name of DangerChip posted a meme on the game's Reddit community that succinctly explains the immense leap this iconic melee weapon took in the Labor of Love update. Terra Blade's original version was already considered powerful with its projectile effect, and though the damage was good, it lacked consistency. Not only is the graphical art on the reworked Terra Blade flashier, but by reducing the base damage while making the projectile wider and tied to every swing, it improved and stabilized its damage for both enemy groups and boss fights.

Explaining Terraria's Terra Blade

The iconic Terra Blade is the end result of a long crafting tree that practically begins at the start of the game, follows players through dangerous biomes and rare materials, from the Overworld to the Underworld, and across half of Hardmode. It requires Terraria players to defeat the three Mechanical Bosses, Mothron from a Solar Eclipse event, and gather Chlorophyte Ore from the Hardmode version of the Underground Jungle. It is the melee weapon of choice for players seeking to defeat Plantera in the depths below to open the way into the Jungle Temple.

Labor of Love has been a roaring success for Re-Logic, the perfect capstone of Terraria's long journey. The game has long transcended its humble beginnings, and over the course of a decade, established itself as one of the best sandbox games of all time. Though Terraria: Otherworld may have been canceled by Re-Logic in 2018, a proper sequel to Terraria is still in the works. Though not much is known about the game, Redigit and Cenx mentioned that it would be developed in a different game engine and would feature infinite worlds.

Terraria is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
