There is no such thing as a final Terraria update, as the iconic action-adventure sandbox game by Re-Logic is releasing yet another update with an inexhaustible list of sweeping changes. Released on May 16 back in 2011, Terraria has since undergone a transformation as its popularity skyrocketed to the top of the Steam chart, selling 44 million copies over the course of a decade.

The update has been dubbed "Labor of Love," and it's hard to deny that Terraria is exactly that and so much more. Players do not need to wait long to get their hands on the new content, as the patch has been released today, with a comprehensive change-log that explains the newest additions to the Terraria experience.

Though Terraria seeds were given proper support in "Journey's End" through unique world seeds that changed up the experience for players in search of new challenges, "Labor of Love" takes them to a whole new level. An example is the new Remix Seed called "Don't Dig Up," which flips the Terraria pre-hardmode progression upside down.

"Don't Dig Up" spawns players at the very bottom of the world, in Terraria's infernal Underworld biome. From there, thanks to a new type of tree, players can steadily work their way up to the surface world where they will meet formidable foes considerably stronger than the lesser imps they faced below. "Get Fixed Boi" offers a more chaotic experience, on the other hand, as this Zenith Seed combines all the custom world seeds of Terraria into one.

The new patch also introduces town slimes, eight new collectible NPCs that seemingly mimic pets bought from the Zoologist of Terraria. They look like a veritably adorable band, and players will no doubt be able to brighten up their towns and encampments with Squire Slime, Mystic Slime, Clumsy Slime, and others.

To help players traverse and preserve (or alter) their worlds, "Labor of Love" is also introducing an upgrade to the Cellphone trinket and the Clentaminator tool. The new Shellphone will let players choose the destination of their teleport between their spawn point, active bed, Ocean, or the Underworld. On the other hand, the Terraformer will allow them to cleanse (or contaminate) biomes with even greater efficiency, boasting faster speed and longer range.

Creative players are also getting new tools to help with their Terraria builds. The new Echo Coating, combined with the Echo Monolith, allows players to paint blocks in a new state where they can toggle visibility by interacting with the monolith. In addition to this, players will also gain the ability to apply debris and foliage in-game through the Rubblemaker.

This love letter to Terraria's community will allow returning players to experience their favorite game at its zenith, with all the unfinished content and unpolished features patched to completion. Re-Logic has made no claim whether this would be the final update, but with Terraria mod support officially here for 1.4 and above, players will not be left in want of new content for quite some time.

Terraria is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
