Added as part of update 1.4, Terraria's Gemcorns give players the ability to grow their very own Gem Trees, which have the potential to produce Gems of their particular type. That said, some fans may be a bit confused about how to plant Gemcorns in Terraria, or they may simply be interested in learning a bit more about Gem Trees, and this guide has all of the details that these players will need.

To start, a Gemcorn in Terraria can be crafted by combining an Acorn with an Amber, Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, Topaz, or Amethyst Gem, and the resulting Gemcorn will be of the same type as the Gem that was used. For full clarity, this means that combining an Acorn with an Amethyst will create an Amethyst Gemcorn in Terraria, and the same concept can be applied to all of the other Gems in Re-Logic's sandbox game as well.

With that established, Terraria's Gemcorns can be planted just like Acorns with one big caveat: they must be planted on Stone in the Underground or Cavern layers. This is true for all of the different types of Gemcorns, and players will thus need to head below the surface if they want to grow their own Gem Trees in Terraria's Journey's End update.

On the topic of Gem Trees, once they have grown they can then be chopped down for materials in Terraria. Specifically, Gem Trees will grant 10 to 20 Stone, 0 to 5 Gemcorns of their type, and 0 to 3 Gems of their type when players take their axe to them. Additionally, it is worth noting that Gem Trees in Terraria can appear randomly in caverns, though that does not appear to be a very common occurrence.

With respect to how long it takes for a Gem Tree to grow from a Gemcorn, players indicate that it can range from a few minutes to an hour. Of course, there is plenty for fans to occupy themselves with in the Journey's End update, and indeed players can work on tackling the new bosses in Terraria 1.4 or crafting the Zenith sword while they wait for their Gemcorns to bear fruit.

Terraria is out now on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, iOS, PS Vita, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, and Switch.
