Of all the PlayStation 4 titles to receive a PlayStation 5 upgrade, it's safe to assume that not many expected the 2019 Terminator game, Terminator: Resistance, would be one of them. Still, that's precisely what's happening and, after a slight delay, the PS5 version is set to release at the end of April. And like most other PS5 upgrades, anyone who owns the game on the PS4 will be able to download the upgrade for free.

At least, that was the plan. Unfortunately, publisher Reef Entertainment has stated that the upgrade may not actually be ready when the game releases. According to a post on its website, Reef Entertainment has only recently been informed that additional work is required from Sony to ensure that the upgrade happens smoothly. And since Sony hasn't provided a date on when it will complete this, Reef Entertainment has to admit that the upgrade probably won't be available to download in time for launch.

Hopefully, if this does come to pass, the wait won't be particularly long, and it's not like this is the only game to have issues with its PS5 upgrade. For example, when Yakuza: Like a Dragon finally released on PS5, some people were initially unable to download the upgrade for some reason, though Sega and RGG studio were alerted quite quickly and it was thankfully fixed.

Compared to how Microsoft handles free upgrades, with them being guaranteed for every cross-gen game available on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, Microsoft certainly holds the advantage in this regard. While most PS4 games to see re-releases on the PS5 come with upgrades too, it's always been up to the developer/publisher in question; it's not something Sony itself enforces.

Terminator Resistance Worst FPS

Funnily enough, Terminator: Resistance isn't receiving a re-release on the Xbox Series X despite originally releasing for the Xbox One as well as the PS4. What's more, while the game received mixed to negative reviews overall, the PS4 version is perceived to be the worst version, holding an average Metacritic score of 47/100, while the Xbox One and PC versions are scored at 55/100 and 60/100 respectively.

Terminator: Resistance is a first-person shooter that, rather than serve as a tie-in, tells an original story set during the future war shown in the first two Terminator movies. While the main story puts players in control of a human soldier, there is a separate mode that lets players be the Terminator. It'll be interesting to see how well the re-release performs when it launches, especially since it's coming out the same day as PS5 exclusive Returnal.

Terminator: Resistance is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with the PlayStation 5 version launching on April 30.
