Episode 1 of The Expanse: A Telltale Series is launching on July 27 across PS4, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive. Telltale first announced The Expanse at The Game Awards in 2021, marking the first brand-new project since Telltale Games was reformed in 2018.

The original incarnation of Telltale Games closed its doors in 2018, but its assets were purchased by LCG Entertainment. LCG Entertainment revived the Telltale Games brand, re-releasing its older games while starting development on new projects. The Expanse: A Telltale Series is the first finished project from this new version of Telltale Games, so it will definitely be interesting to see if it lives up to expectations come launch.

Science Fiction Sci Fi Games 2023 Telltale The Expanse

For those unfamiliar with Telltale's take on The Expanse, the game is a prequel to the popular sci-fi series that aired its first three seasons on Syfy before finishing its run with an additional three seasons through Amazon Prime Video. The Expanse earned a great deal of critical acclaim during its run and is often singled out as one of the better sci-fi series of the last decade, so the video game has a lot to live up to.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series serves as a prequel to TV show, with players taking on the role of Camina Drummer. Notably, Drummer is portrayed by Cara Gee in the Expanse video game, with the actress reprising her role from the TV series. While The Expanse: A Telltale Series will retain many elements from previous Telltale games, it will also be a step forward, with Telltale promoting it as having the "largest and most immersive" exploration of any Telltale game released so far.

If The Expanse: A Telltale Series manages to live up to the high bar set by Telltale's previous games, fans will likely be more excited about some of the company's future projects. While the Game of Thrones and Stranger Things projects have been canceled, Telltale has The Wolf Among Us 2 on the way, with the game expected to arrive at some point in 2024. Telltale fans can whet their appetite by checking out The Expanse: A Telltale Series in the meantime.
