As is the case with many other modern video games, there are several different versions of Tekken 8 for prospective buyers to choose from. As well as the standard edition, there are also deluxe and ultimate versions of the game available, each of which comes with a bunch of additional downloadable content for players to enjoy.
Tekken 8 Burning Questions, Answered (Crossplay, Rollback Netcode & More)
With the release of the game now imminent, prospective buyers will likely have a lot of questions about Tekken 8. This FAQ should help to answer them.
There are also a few bonuses available for pre-ordering Tekken 8, which, together with the three different versions, has the potential to make things a little confusing for some players. This guide will go over what every version of Tekken 8 comes with while also offering a little insight into which edition of the game is best.
Tekken 8 Version Differences
There are three different versions of Tekken 8; the cheapest of which is the standard edition. This is effectively just the base version of the game and provides players with no additional content whatsoever. The biggest benefit of purchasing the deluxe edition of Tekken 8 is the Year 1 Pass, which grants access to four additional DLC fighters. Players who splash out on this version will also get the Gold Suit costume for all 32 playable characters and the Kinjin Avatar Skin. Anyone who purchases the ultimate edition will get all of the aforementioned content as well as the Classic Tekken Tee Set avatar costume and Jin, Jun, and Kazuya skins for their online and Arcade Quest avatars.
Version | Price | Additional Content |
---|---|---|
Standard Edition | $69.99 | — |
Deluxe Edition | $99.99 | Playable Character Year 1 Pass Avatar Skin: Kinjin Character Costume: Gold Suit Pack |
Ultimate Edition | $109.99 | Playable Character Year 1 Pass Avatar Skin: Kinjin Character Costume: Gold Suit Pack Avatar Costume: Classic TEKKEN Tee Set 3 Avatar Skins: Kazuya, Jun, Jin |
There is also a limited edition premium collector's edition of Tekken 8 available via the Bandai Namco website, which comes with all of the ultimate edition bonuses as well as a bunch of physical rewards, including a statue of Jin, some collectible cards, and an arcade token.
Which Version of Tekken 8 is Best
Unless players are really into their cosmetic items, it's probably best to avoid the ultimate edition of Tekken 8, as the only things that it provides that the deluxe edition doesn't are avatar-related costumes and skins. It then becomes a question of whether players are likely to purchase the Year 1 Pass at any point, and whether they want to have access to the four fighters that it will eventually unlock right away. As of the time of writing, the only DLC character confirmed for Tekken 8 is Eddy Gordo, who will be arriving at some point before the end of spring. Although we do know that they'll be releasing in summer, autumn, and winter respectively, there's no telling who the other three will be, making it a bit of a gamble for players.
Tekken 8 Expected Release Times
Given all of the hype and excitement surrounding the title, it's little wonder that so many people are keen to find out the release time of Tekken 8.
It's also worth noting that the third season pass for Tekken 7 (which also provided players with four additional fighters) launched at $24.99, suggesting that it may actually be cheaper to purchase the standard edition of Tekken 8 and the Year 1 Pass separately than it is to buy the deluxe edition at launch, though we won't know if this is the case until pricing for the latter is officially revealed. Given that Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack and the Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Character Pass launched at $39.99 and $29.99 respectively, it wouldn't be all that surprising if the Tekken 8 Year 1 Pass was priced at $29.99 or higher, which would potentially make the deluxe edition a decent deal for hardcore Tekken fans.
Tekken 8 Pre-Order Bonuses
Anybody who pre-orders Tekken 8 will gain access to two additional avatar skins (Tetsujin and Mokujin), with PS5 players also getting a special Paul Phoenix avatar costume set. These pre-order bonuses come with all three versions of Tekken 8 and will be unlocked as soon as players boot up the game for the first time. This is also the case for all of the deluxe and ultimate edition bonuses, with the exception of the four Year 1 Pass fighters, the latter of which will be dropping periodically over the course of the next year or so. As mentioned above, Eddy Gordo will be released in spring, with the other three characters dropping in the summer, autumn, and winter of 2024 respectively.
