As is the case in most modern fighting games, Tekken 8 features a story mode. The Dark Awakens once again focuses on the Mishima family and the Devil gene, with players thrust into the shoes of Jin Kazama as he attempts to bring an end to his father's reign of terror. It sees the long-awaited return of Jin's mother Jun, while also shining a spotlight on Reina, who is one of three new characters introduced in Tekken 8.

What some players might not realize is that there are actually two different endings for The Dark Awakens, with each one providing players with a different Trophy/Achievement and a unique mid-credits scene. Thankfully, though, unlocking the alternate ending for the story mode of Tekken 8 is relatively straightforward, with players simply needing to replay one of the 15 story mode chapters and do things a little differently.

In order to unlock the alternate ending in Chapter 15 of The Dark Awakens, players simply need to lose the final battle with Kazuya. Doing so is actually quite difficult, though, as running out of health in all but one of the final fight's many phases will result in a game over screen. To get around this, players will need to wait until the final phase of the fight when Kazuya begins to glow red, at which point, running out of health will trigger a different ending, allowing players to unlock the Despair Trophy / Achievement.

Tekken 8's Endings, Explained

Tekken 8 Good Ending (Hope)

If players defeat Kazuya during the final battle of The Dark Awakens, they'll unlock the Hope ending. This sees Jin reflecting on his victory before receiving a message from his mother, Jun. He and Xiaoyu then ride off into the sunset as a pair of women's legs can be seen walking up to Kazuya's motionless body. Series fans should recognize these legs as Jun's. A little later on, in a mid-credits scene, Reina appears and reveals that she is actually Heihachi's daughter. She then transforms into Devil Reina, showing that the Devil gene has not been completely eradicated after all.

Tekken 8 Bad Ending (Despair)

If players lose to Kazuya in the final showdown, Kazuya will throw Jin's body off a cliff, mirroring scenes from previous Tekken games. He'll then be shown in his office at Mishima Zaibatsu, where he vows to fight on despite no longer possessing the Devil gene. The mid-credits scene is similar to the one shown during the good ending of Tekken 8, although the imagery leading up to it is a lot darker this time around.
