Highlights

  • Bandai Namco's Tekken 8 will require a hefty 100 GB of storage space to play, making it as large as popular games like The Last of Us Part 1 and Rainbow Six Siege.
  • The increase in storage requirements for Tekken 8 follows a trend in the gaming industry, where games like Street Fighter 6 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have also seen significant increases in file size.
  • The game's story mode in Tekken 8 is expected to be bigger than its predecessor, Tekken 7, due to a larger budget allocated by Bandai Namco. Players can expect an immersive experience in the game's story campaign.

Bandai Namco revealed in Tekken 8's system requirements that gamers need 100 GB of storage to play it on their gaming platforms. The game developer's disclosure of Tekken 8's system requirements is timely; it set the game's release for January 26, 2024.

Video games released in the past few years have been increasing in size for various reasons. For instance, Capcom's Street Fighter 6 requires gamers to have 60 GB of storage to make it playable, a significant increase from the 35 GB Street Fighter 5 needs. Similarly, Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remake requires gamers to have 200 GB to play it, another significant increase from the Modern Warfare 2 remake, which requires 125 GB. Bandai Namco, it seems, is also increasing the storage space needed for its latest entry to its Tekken series.

According to Bandai Namco's official Tekken 8 webpage, the game will need 100 GB of storage to be playable, making it as large as The Last of Us Part 1 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege (with the HD texture packs). This storage requirement is true for all platforms Tekken 8 is playable on. As such, gamers on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S must free up 100 GB of storage from their gaming consoles to play the game.

Tekken 8's huge storage requirement could be partly due to its Story Mode, which Bandai Namco confirmed will be bigger than Tekken 7's. According to a Famitsu interview with development producer and director Kohei Ikeda and marketing producer Naoya Yasuda, Bandai Namco allocated a much larger budget for the game, allowing them to put more content into its story mode. As such, gamers interested in playing Tekken 8 could be in for quite an experience as they play the game's story mode.

Meanwhile, Tekken 8's PC system requirements are quite manageable; its system requirements put it around the same level as Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6, with the former needing a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc A770 to be playable. However, the storage Tekken 8 requires could be a hard pill for gamers with limited storage spaces.
